    Title for New York Vintage car?

    Hi, My CAV GT40 was registered in Arizona as a '66 Ford Coupe. When I bought it quite a few years ago, I registered it in New York, also as a '66 Ford. In New York, Titles are not issued to cars older than '73. Instead, we get a "transferrable" certificate of registration, which is the document...

    Getrag in my GT40 is not right...what's up? Help

    My friend drove my CAV GT40 70 miles east to my summer home for the winter today with me in the passenger seat. I'm not allowed to drive because of of a cycling accident (a car hit me) until another month but that's another story. Anyway, I kept asking what's the matter as he was having a...

    Time for new shoes

    Hello CAV GT40 friends! I've been away a while but back in action... Took a spirited drive yesterday and seems like the old Good Year rubber is just not good enough anymore. Perhaps it's time for a new set of tyres. What's the latest and the greatest for our 15" BRMs? Don't say Avon...I just...

    Trim tip.

    A good weekend project... I thought I'd share this with my CAV friends. I took all the plexiglass from the car and masked all but 5/8" to the edges. (inside surfaces). A bit tricky but patience and good blue masking tape resulted in a satisfactory tape job:drunk: Cleaned thoroughly with...

    Nitrous for Webers?

    Just thinking out loud... When I changed over to Webers, I had lots of problems with timing, vacuum, etc. but finally sorted it out, not using the manifold vacuum for dizzy advance. tMy manifold dwas expertly plumbed by Ian of CAV Canada. I did use the brake servo vacuum tap. So, my...

    Alternator=Kaput?

    Since it almost hit a record-breaking 70 degrees yesterday, I drove all the toys. The CAV's battery seemed down when I cranked her up but started right up with a bit more sneezing and coughing from the Webers than usual. I noticed that the amp meter was a bit below 12V. Normally, when I rev it...

    Are Metric Drilled Head Bolts available?

    I'm looking to replace the bolts for the CV joints on the CAV. My spirited driving backs them out inspite of thread lock or plumber's glue so I think I have to safety-wire them like prop bolts. I've drilled 4 but went through 3 bits already. I looked at Aircraft Spruce, Pegasus and all they...

    Engines' skewed a bit...

    My engine seems to tilt a bit to one side as evidenced by the Weber turkey pan rubbing on 1 side of the clip opening. Would there be any harm, you think, if I installed a couple of washers under the motor mounts and the transaxle mounts on 1 side?:rolleyes:

    Red Hot Ignition Switch

    Driving home 70 miles on the GT40 last night, I got home and almost burned my fingers turning off the ignition switch. I had the A/C on throughout the 1.2 hour drive, headlights on, both radiator fans on with the overide switch, and my cell phone on the hands-off device plugged in to the accy...

    GT40 = copbait

    All I wanted to do was go for a nice drive out to the Hamptons. Got stopped twice. The first was by a Nassau County cop in an Expedition cruiser whom I passed (with about 5 other cars) doing 65 on the Long Island Expressway. I moved to the right lane, a few cars passed me doing 70 or more...

    Ford Oval Emblem

    Does anyone have a source for a 2" or smaller Ford Oval emblem? They must be available from Ford but the ones I see are all 4" or larger. Thanks

    Radiator Fan Screen

    I don't know if there was a screen on the original but I thought this was a practical and nice mod to the single nostril fan enclosure on my CAV. I know the double nostril model had them. Does it look OK?

    New Lower Reverse A Arms

    I just installed Ian Clark's famous lower arms for the CAV and they are fantastic. Inspite of a bit of fabrication/welding and machining of the upper and lower clevis, they have allowed positioning of the rear tyres in the proper(centered) position inside the wheel well. The quality and finish...

    Parked next to GT40P1058

    Last Sunday, I cruised to Captree Boat basin in Long Island NY, to see if my CV joint was still spitting grease. I think I licked the problem by using plumber's seal on the bolts. An added benefit and a wonderful surprise when I got there was seeing this beautifully restored road car, which I...

    My CV is still spitting grease!

    Hi, I was puzzled at finding grease in the area of the RH CV on my CAV GT. I always found a small ball of grease between the speedo sensor and the CV bolts. Bob C. and some others suggested checking the tightness or integrity of the bolts holding the CV halves together. They were pretty secure...

    Getrag oil + some questions...

    Any harm in using synthetic 75W90 lube in the Getrag? What IS the recommended oil anyway? I've noticed some greasy gunk accumulating between the speedo sensor and the CV housing bolts. I constantly clean it off because it gets thrown all over the engine bay. Is this normal or do I have a...

    Audi Getrag electrical terminals

    May be a stupid question but what are the electric terminals on th Audi Getrag 5 spd 16 for? I did a 2 year search and couldn't find anything. I'm assuming the 2 terminals on the side is for the reverse switch but there's another single terminal in the back that puzzles me. Neutral kill switch...

    Thermotec disaster

    It took me 2 evenings to line the engine clip with Thermotec "Cool It" in the hope of reducing some of the transmitted engine noise as well as protect the exterior paint directly above the bundle of snakes. It hit 60 today and so I fired her up to test results of my soundproofing efforts...

    Soundproofing

    Being such a pretty day yesterday, I decided to take the CAV out to Riverhead (abt. 70 mi. each way) to buy a Dynamat kit (the hood kit) which has enough sheets (4) of 20" X 30" or so for $150. I'm glad I did because the cabin noise after an hour's driving is definitely way over 95 db. So I...

    Turn on the Heat!

    Hi all, My CAV was built in Honolulu and apparently, the heating system was never set up. Well, now that it's in New York, it would be nice to have it for those crisp 40 degree drives. Before I dig into the plumbing system, Can snyone enlighten me as to how these are usually set up? I just...
