Go Like Hell, by A J Baime

Well, I'm glad I started the thread then. Being a Cobra buff, I will always enjoy Gumball Rally, as goofy as it is. Grand Prix was an excellent movie (of course I'm biased about 1960's racing), but I found Lemans a bit of a disspointment. Maybe too much story with Grand Prix, and certainly not...

Go Like Hell, by A J Baime

Pamela Anderson? to play a guy? I think most people would notice she's female. LOL. How about James Coburn?...oh darn.....he died.

Go Like Hell, by A J Baime

There was talk about making a movie....Brad Pitt, Russel Crowe, and others are interested. Now that would be a keeper, even if the movie wasn't good, there would have to be lots of GT40 footage.

Go Like Hell, by A J Baime

I just finished reading A.J. Baime's book, "Go Like Hell". It's a remarkable true account of Ford vs Ferrari in the 1960's, culiminating in the 1,2,3 GT40 victory at the 1966 Lemans. I found it hard to put down. No doubt everyone here is aware of this book, but I didn't find it mentioned in a...

    Importing into Canada ... Again

I am pretty sure that would constitute some sort of "fraud" as far as Canada Customs is concerned. I think they get you to sign something when you import a "R" stating it will never be used on public roads, but I'm not sure about the paperwork anymore.....tis been a long time since I looked...

    Importing into Canada ... Again

There's one HUGE bit of info missing from my original post, and it's Customs Tariff descriptions. Whatever is imported, it must be matched up to a Tariff code/number and must meet the description of that Tariff to the satisfaction of Customs Officials. Unfortunately, I cannot find Tarrif...

    Problem with tacho dying

Russ, I may have jumped the gun here. It didn't occur to me you may have a "current sensing" tach until I read Jac Mac's post above. The tach adapter circuit we've been discussing is for voltage sensing tachs (which most are). Before you go any further, you may have to determine which type of...

    Problem with tacho dying

Yes, the total power dissapated would be the same, but in the twin resistor scenario, each resistor would dissipate 1/2 the total making it "easier" on each component. But I wouldn't worry too much about the resistor dissipation. A steady 13.8 VDC across a 13K resistor would dissipate 14.7 mW...

    Problem with tacho dying

A few notes: The tach output from the MSD unit should be used. I am under the impression that only a single pulse per cylinder comes from that output, not multiple sparks as per the coil connection. If you havn't hooked it up this way, try it. You may not need an adapter at all. Yes, from...

    Problem with tacho dying

A lot of tachs were designed to work with points. A point sytem will provide the tach with zero volts with the points closed and maybe anywhere from 8 to 14 (depending on wether an igntion coil ballast resistor is used) when open. With an electronic igntion, you only get 0.9 vdc when the unit is...

    Importing into Canada ... Again

I thought that odd,, and not "moot" at all. Surely, if the ruling was to favour the importer (which it did), then Revenue Canada (i.e. Customs) would be responsible for those items in their care. Regardless, I fail to grasp why TC has not backed down on their interpretation of teh "Act" based...

    Importing into Canada ... Again

I see that Transport Canada's appeal on the Macro case was dismissed: Federal Court of Appeal - Canada (Transport) v. Macro Auto Leasing Inc. On that basis, one should be able to import most any kit. But nothing has changed with TC that I can find. Seems to me, that TC should be more...

    Importing into Canada ... Again

I was thinking of building a GT40 for some time, but am still put off with the legality of importing a kit. A real kit, no partial assembly. I have done this before with a Cobra kit. I placed my order in 1993 and started to bring back parts and pieces in 1994. Naturally, the Motor Vehicle...

    Version Differences

Thanks Ron. I do have a book.....Brooklands Ford GT40 Gold Portfolio, but it is mostly reprints of old magazine articles and doesn't compare the versions. You are correct...Since I researched the Cobra in the early 90's, I havn't paid a lot of attention to the Kit Car market, but I have...

    Version Differences

I am thinking of building an ERA GT40. A number of years ago, I built an ERA 427 Cobra, and it warrants a repeat, but with a different car. I am not that familiar with the GT40s and would like to know the main differences between the versions. I see that home page for this site lists MK1, MK2...
