How much is my alternator worth?

I drove my 271HP FB to the Bonneville Salt Flats last year and en route back to the hacienda I stopped in to check out the Shelby American Musuem in Colo. While closely scoping out a GT-40 with a plethora of spares lying about I spotted what would be a GT-40 alternator on a bench or shelf next...

VIR Gold Cup Historics This Weekend, June 8-10

Sorry I missed you at the Tavern. Really enjoyed the Historic race weekend with a group of Shelby, Tiger & Mustang Racers. Maybe I'll see at the Bonneville Salt Flats in a week or two. Driving out in a 66 289 271HP Fastback w/o a/c.

    IDF vs. IDA ?

It's your car and you are the only one to please. The essence of a GT-40 is not a budget sedan with a bargain induction system. I love GT-40s with hipo 289s and 48 IDAs. In the event you sell or trade your car in the future I believe the IDAs would make your car more desirable. But in the end...

    Cracked Crank Pulley

I have one of these. On a tip years ago a friend told me about a 289HP engine was in a junk yard in Front Royal, Virginia for $100. Needless to say I was in place the following Saturday morning. The car was a 68 1/2 Cobra Jet Mustang fastback with a complete 271. The car was in a front end...

What would you do if there were no american engines?

I would go to NZ or Australia and Buy a 2008 Falcon Ranchero (Ute) Boss 260 and make fit before considering anything else.

Oil flow path - or In's and Out's of plumbing

I know the flow by heart because I see it every time I change the oil. After pulling the plug removing the old FL1-A Motorcraft oil filter, I reinstall the plug & throw in a couple quarts of Mobil 1, put the transmission in neutral, disconnect the ignition lead to the starter solenoid hook up...

    289 Hi-Po w/heads Value?

There were only about 17,000 289HP engines made and the cars they came in had a high death rate. I would keep the heads with the block and put them in a safe corner. The cars they came in were were subjected to certain abusive owners who drove them like they were stolen & became parts motors...

What oil are you all using?

Mobil 1 filtered only by Motorcraft oil filters.

    Camshaft advice please

All of the 65 & 66 Shelbys & Mustangs I've owned had the 271HP 289 Ford solid lifter cam and I used to drive them to work, out driving the DC cab drivers, blowing wet liftered Corvettes & Camaros into the weeds. I can't think of a better total performance camshaft capable of 7K rpm and yet quite...

    302/Boss 302 351/Boss 351

302s have valve covers similar to a 289, and they have thin harmonic balancers. Boss 302s & Boss 351s use the same valve cover, Boss 302s have screw-in freeze plugs and fat harmonic balancers, Boss 351 blocks are longer. All use the same 6 bolt bell housings. Tunnel port 302s, Boss 302s & Boss...

    Ford's Short Water Pump

May I suggest you scope out a Sunbeam Tiger water pump, which was shortened for fan to radiater clearance. I've heard you or a rebuilder can convert a regular 289 water pump to Tiger specifications with a press and a hacksaw. The Tiger guys may be able to clue you in to a source of the pulley.

    Ford 289 bearings

Spare yourselves the brutal agony in front of friends and fans and make sure you have 271HP clevite 77 rod bearings, which are chamfered on the edges to clear the rounded sides of the 271HP rod journals on a 271HP crank, otherwise you will be hating life when you lock up the crank when you...
