Possible new owner of a Ford gt. A lot of doubts

One thing I Remember Ken doing was fitting a Cleveland V8 not the Windsor V8s fitted by most of us. Not sure if he ever changed it.

    Transaxle vent/breather

Has anyone ever inverted an automatic transaxle successfully? Health issues mean I need to look at various options including dry sump on automatic trans and hand clutch on a manual gear lever. I have ideas on both but I`m interested whether its been done already?

Ethan’s GT40 mkII fully scratch build

I presume you are not interested in originality if you intend using Chevrolet and Japanese car parts in your build? Up to you of course, each to their own, good luck with it. There is plenty of help out there if you need it.

    Transaxle vent/breather

I used a similar system to the one Andrew used when I inverted my Renault UN1 transaxle all those years ago. It has worked well and given no trouble that I recall.

    Rear Clamshell wheel well lip

Sorry brain working now, I don`t know what the clam was off, it was the wheels I was thinking about as the wider Gulf wheels in 69 were under arches with no lips, the 68 wheels were under arches with lips. This was not a Gulf coloured clam anyway so I presume its off something else?

    Rear Clamshell wheel well lip

Looks like the 68 arches to me. The 69 cars used 14 inch wheels under rear clams that were wider I think

    RCR 917 drivetrain possibilities

There are a couple of things that drive my enthusiasm for replicas. One is original manufacturer for components etc so Porsche engine and gearbox is important The other is the sound they make. A Porsche flat 12 would be great but there isn`t much living space inside a 917. Even if I sold the...

Interest to read experience in fitting auto box to GT40

I should have added that my engine is set at the same height as the original 40s and I kept the driveshaft angles similar too and not as extreme as some cars I`ve seen, That is why fitting an auto box would make it difficult to achieve similar results.

Interest to read experience in fitting auto box to GT40

When I built my 40 back in the late 80`s early 90`s I didn`t need or want one but time and health problems mean I do now so I`m interested in this subject. To complicate things many might know that I inverted my transaxle from day one but of course I can`t do that with an auto so easily. I used...

GULF 1075 Pinstripe colour and width

The 10`` wide is correct for the orange stripe. Be careful assuming museum cars have been restored correctly. When 1075 was originally restored after it finished racing the orange nose/moustache was painted incorrectly. Of course people who didn`t know then copied that shape.

    RCR40 17" track / autocross tires

Personally tyres would be one of the last things I would buy so they are quite fresh when I needed them. just a thought.

    HELP ! KVA 1989 CHASSIS TYPE C + UN1 + 302- INCLINATION OF THE REAR HALF-DRIVESHAFTS

Hi guys interesting conversation about inverting the UN Renault gearbox in KVA 40s. I did all of that back in the 1980s before anyone had done that in a 40. Driveshaft angles and wanting to drop the engine to the same height as the original cars were the drivers for me. No internet back then so...

    Current Original GT40 Value?

Whenever GT40 values come up it reminds me of a club meeting we had at Leyland in Lancashire back in the 1980`s. At the time a real mk1 road car was advertised for sale in the motoring press. It was a nice looking blue car and was owned by a doctor I think. Back then many of us wanted to build...

    New Gt40 from South Africa

Ken Atwell tried one or two different rear suspension sources, VW, Ford Granada or you could do what Ray Christopher did ( and I copied ) cut off both ends of the KVA chassis and weld in subframes to take GTD suspension or your own design. This dates back to when we all built our own cars...
