Mike, you might want to give Dennis Olthoff a call, or someone else with lots of SPF experience, he can probably recommend the best way for you to proceed.
Randy, I think you’ll be okay with the large cap MSD on a 302 based motor and stack injection. The wire terminals of the large cap MSD on my 351W based motor with much taller deck height did touch the firewall, so I swapped over to the small cap configuration to provide clearance. Both caps have...
Thanks to Photobucket benevolence, I guess we aren’t privy to Randy V’s original photo array…
FWIW Randy F, living in FL with high heat and increasingly pervasive traffic, my biggest concern is the same as yours. As such, I’ve been reconfiguring my entire cooling system to preclude...
Btw Randy, the only reason I mentioned the QJs was to provide you with workable dimensions for a dolly. 5’ L x 38” W should be perfect dolly dimensions when positioned as shown in photos.
Looks like a lot of work and expense to make something less mobile than QJs…;)
I got mine like new on eBay for around $1K. They lift the car 23” and I hang them on the wall when not in use.
Randy, FWIW, l currently have my car up on Quick Jacks. They measure 5’ long and they are spaced approx 38” apart to the outer edges. You can get an idea how the car is positioned from the photos.
I removed the engine and transaxle while it was up on the QJs, and it’s very stable either way.
Unfortunately, I think many, if not most, regular contributors have abandoned the platform at this point due to constant stoppages and glitches. Not likely they’ll return.
Derek, the early ERA cars were I believe mild steel, and later cars I think were stainless. Not sure about the roof material.
Yes, I would equate ERA and RCR build quality, albeit completely different in design and construction under the fiberglass.
Chris, just a suggestion, but I’d angle both of those extra silencers in the same direction away from wherever the sensors are placed to measure the dB level, or maybe just replace the extra silencers with simple deflectors angled away from the sensors if you only need to come down 3 dB.
Btw Rick, Mac McClendon (Lola specialist) had an unbuilt early ERA GT40 kit stashed in one of his out buildings at his place here in North FL, could that be the one you’re referring to?
Just to add an endorsement to Rick’s insightful comments, I’ve seen finished examples of ERA GT40s (as well as cobras) at different venues spanning many years, and they’ve always represented among the very best that the replica industry has to offer. I don’t question their rising values at all.
