Porsche transaxle vs Mendeola for GT40 build

Hello, I'm finally getting things lined up to build a GT40. My engine will be a 408/427 Windsor, built with reliability in mind vs pure horsepower numbers. But I'm still thinking in the 450hp range with similar torque. I was looking for opinions for the transaxle. I've talked with the guys...

New possible source for Bundle of Snakes Exhaust

I found this company while surfing the 'net. Prices seem reasonable. And they specialize in exhaust for Windsor-based setups. 180 Degree Headers for Windsor Motors

Another question: Dry or wet oil sump setup??

Got another question. Do most use a standard oil pan in their GT40? Or can a 7 qt. pan be used? Or are dry sump setups used because of added ground clearance? Or a road race rear sump oil pan? Too many choices.

    Share your engine combination............

Maybe this could become a sticky. I've been surfing the internet and mainly magazine articles on various engine builds from a 289/302 up to a 427 windsor stroker and even a few 427FE builds. I was just wondering if people would share their engine builds along with their HP/TQ dyno results...

Has anyone ever gotten a Griffin transaxle......

I'm in the planning stages for a GT40 car and am looking at my options for the transaxle. I want to do a right hand drive setup with the shifter on the right, so cable shifter. It seems like the best I've found so far is a Porsche 6-speed. Rebuilt by a reputable company with an adapter plate...

Rear tire size question and 2"/4" flares......

I was looking at RCR's web site and saw that you can order your body with no flares, 2" flares, or 4" flares. It seems that, if going with 15" wheels, the front tire size is pretty fixed at a 225 wide tire. I was just wondering what the different tire sizes that'll fit with the stock body...

    351 Windsor ID ??

Hi, well I scooped up a 351 Windsor that happened to be right down the road. It's a 2-barrel intake engine. I don't have a car to put it in yet, but hey that's a minor detail . Anyway, I got it home and managed to clean all the sludge off of the engine to get the block ID. The guy...

    302 or 351W??? I'm driving myself nuts

Well I'm still in the planning stages of a GT40 build. But I really want to have everything lined up before I drop the $$$$. I've been pouring over all the stuff online regarding various drivetrain possibilities. I think I've got the trans down as a Porsche unit. I've talked with several of...

Question of wheel size and brakes that'll fit........

I'm in the planning stages of building a GT40. One of the things that has come up is the wheel diameter. I'm thinking of building a car from Active Power Cars and they use Corvette C5/C6 suspension pieces and brakes. I've seen that the factory size rotors are 12.6" on the front and 11.8" on...

What are all the special tools I keep reading about???

Hi, I've read a bunch on the site here. And it seems to come up a lot. What exactly are all the "special" tools that someone is going to need to build one of these cars?

Here's a loaded question: Which engine would be best for an RCR build?

I know, I know. I'm probably going to get 100 different responses with 100 different opinions. But I gotta ask. Looking at possibly a GT40 build. I was originally thinking of a 428FE engine for a build. But I was barraged with people telling me that I'll be tearing up the transmission in no...

Hello, new to site, wondering what "real" cost is of a GT40?

Hello, been involved in muscle cars and some foreign for years. I've owned/worked on a 1970 Maserati Ghibli, 1967 Impala SS, 1970 Buick GS455, etc. I do all my own work Engine rebuilds, suspension, fuel systems, wiring, etc except for transmissions and rearends.. Just don't wanna go there...
