But it's also a safe track. There is a lot of runoff area before you hit anything hard. There was only one yellow flag the whole race, and that was because a car died near the end of the race and cam to a stop at pit exit...

Just an FYI -- fans are allowed in pit lane when the Grand-Am cars are rolled to the grid (Dyatona 24hrs) as well.

One of the Aston Martins took the opportunity to have his alternator belt replaced during the yellow. The commentators at the track weren't sure what was going on at the time, but knew he had a lot of time to get whatever he needed fixed,since they figured the pace car would take about 12 minutes (well, not really) to complete a lap on the 4+ mile course...

...and I'll wind it up with a shot of the turn called Windup. This leads to a turn called Release, which leads onto the (2/3 mile long) main straightaway. You can see that this is a good place to pass...

No, there's actually a spectator area right at pit exit. I suspect as time goes on and more spectators start coming to this track, it will be nigh impossible to grab a spot there. As it was, people were stealing chairs from the adjacent dinig area and using them to mark their territory...

If this was the same incident in the pits, the mechanics were changing something in the trunk. Was this an alternator driven from another location than the motor?

The car that stopped in the pit lane exit was the second Penske Porsche.
