Looks like a good box, just depends on how much work it might need. Does have the Quaife and the lower final drive gear (4.85 vs stock 4.22).

I think I looked at changing the final drive ratio and I think it makes the gears short, but getting the R&P is harder then gears.

Will see how much it goes for...

Hi Sandy, 75 mph first gear and 168 4th doesn't seem all that "short" to me (at 6800) Depending on the length of the straights of course but I would think that gearing would be ideal. As a road box 1st is too high and 4th is too low but no-one is going to buy this one for the road.

Cheers

Russ -

Your right, I ASSumed that it was stock gears and didn't read it all, the 2.25 first is to low with the 4.87 rear, but fine with the 1.44. That must have cost someone a good amount of $$ for the 4 speed re-gears and the r&p. Here is the charts for 26" tires. The gearbox ends up being very nicely geared and at least has LSD which none of mine did.

The stock box ratios are like this

Kind of funny, but the one I bought on Ebay is set up almost exactly the same. From Karl Hens in PA that does transaxle work, it has the shorter R&P and the ZF LSD. Has a different 3rd and 4th if I recall, I'll get the sheet on it. I did some calculations with a spread sheet and it worked out to about what Sandy wrote. I'll check it. I haven't mounted it on the engine or anything like that, need to measure the pilot and see if it is completely different than what I have in the crank, I imagine it is.

I got mine for $3600 but it had no starter and no cryo treatment on the gears etc, but it is wired and looks like new inside with a LSD that was just gone through.

Looks like it has gone early. No longer available for sale. Must have been sold off-auction. Wonder what he got for it?

Not sure why he went to the trouble of changing the r&p though coz you can get the same overall gearing just by changing the gears and they are available in suitable ratios. They are nearly identical to what I had tentatively planned for mine after the first season. Also the 8:39 r&p (smaller pinion) is not going to be as strong as the original 9:38 IMHO.

Cheers

I think Ron got a smoking deal from what you sound like you paid for it. I'm in for a lot more just for mind to get them going. I don't know about the R&P strength but as I understand one of the gear sets were made in Italy and the gears are not as good as the factory (what I was told). I would also agree, if you are going to change all the gears why bother with the R&P unless done after the fact.
