Keith in a nutshell yes, that is what I think has happened in Oz and I suspect other democracies. And it is appalling.
I don't think honest hard working people have given up, I do think many do not understand what is happening to the economy and debt needs to be reined in.
I also think a vast number of well meaning people fall for the motherhood statements of politicians and don't realise how much it is costing to give foreign aid, have troops in foreign countries and look after those who choose not to work.
Also a transaction tax would fail because Big Business would not be able to dodge tax under such a scheme, and thousands of tax accountants and lawyers would have to find employment elsewhere.

Ask people where money goes and the assumptions might be on unemployment or incapacity benefit. In fact, 47% of UK benefit spending goes on state pensions of £74.22bn a year, more than the £48.2bn the UK spends on servicing its debt.

It's followed by housing benefit of £16.94bn (+5.2%) and Disability living allowance of £12.57bn (+3.3%).

Jobseekers' allowance is actually one of the smaller benefits - £4.91bn in 2011-12, an increase of 7.6% on the previous year.

So the biggest cost is for dammed pensioners selfishly living to long after retirement and meaning a government increase of 2 years to 67 ( and I suspect this will increase ) for me until I get my state pension.

Bloody inconsiderate lot!!! ;)

My fix, bring in a work for the dole scheme, young able bodied people doing community work instead of sitting on their lazy arses.
Stop foreign aid, all the countries you give aid to hate you anyway and charity begins at home.
Bring in drug tests before you get welfare, why should the taxpayer support your habit?
Do away with income tax and replace it with a transaction tax.
Cut government waste.
Bring the troops home and use them to secure your borders to stop illegal immigrants.
Pass a law that makes pork barreling illegal .
That will do for a start.

Eeeeeeeeh, knock off the common horse sense, will ya?

'Tired of people who think like you...

I am desperately aware of the danger I'm in every time I sally forth on my scooter.:uhoh2:

The theme tune from The Omen rings ominously in my ears as I slowly pedal the mean streets of Lymington....

And people stare...
