    ZFQ transaxle failure

We broke 4 ZFQ in our M1 race car with Chevy LS3 and 15“ wide slicks. The gearbox case is far too weak to take shockloads during downshifts. we changed to Hewland LG 600 and that solved the issue. Compare the design of the Hewland with the very very strong side plates which are clamped with 6...

    CIMA gearbox

I wonder if anyone has used a CIMA gearbox in GT40 or other midengine replica. I still have a Cima box and consider to use it in a future build but wonder whether it will fit from the dimensions and whether other guys have experience with the installation and performance of the box. I have seen...

    M6B Tragic

Hi Udo - many thanks for response. You are right - my headers were designed in CAD and then mandrel-computer bent. The issue on the M8 is that the header bends don’t have enough straight length between them which is required for the grip length of the machine. Therefore I have to make the...

    M6B Tragic

Hi Udo - just starting to think about the exhaust headers for my M8 and wonder what primary diameter you used and how you build, I.e. did you use a wire model or other template first ?

    M20 Dreaming

Neil - if I understand correctly - your approach was handforming the skin around the substructure was possible because the skin was such a thin gauge. This also ment your skin was just one piece rather than 3 like in Russels case ?

    McLaren M20#73

Many thanks for response- what I am trying to point at is that in the traditional M8/M20 the oilpan was bolted as a structural member to the chassis at the front and the bellhousing at the rear. If your undertray is merely a sheet cover to form a flat bottom I wonder whether the whole drivetrain...

    M20 Dreaming

Russel - brilliant - love that hands on approach - its only when you have to make one you begin to realize that its not that trivial as it seems. Yours is looking great without dents by the rivets. I also considered a foam/grp one but thats also not easy, might be heavier and does not look that...

    McLaren M20#73

Andy - I m still amazed about the workmanship - relly outstanding ! When I read your comment yout the oilpan I was wondering how you solved the topic - I think I have seen your comment about an "undertray" which connects rear bulkhead and oilpan. Would be interesting if you could share a pic as...

    M20 Dreaming

Leon - I followed your build with great interest and scanned through it again. To build the entire car from scratch like you did is an enoumous undertraking - I still admire the resilience level to master all the challenges over such a long period - Congratulations to that fantastic looking end...

Many thanks for the positive comments on the headers - more than I derserve .... I design the tubes in CAD and have a Special company which can mandrel bend the headers for the left and right side with the tubes in one piece - so no gas disturbance by any welds - they actually have 2 machines -...

@ Peter - many thanks for positive comments - I guess thats the reward side of it after all the learnings and pitfalls ...... @ Rod the rack for our car is made by Titan Enclosed a couple of engine pics. We designed the exhaust manifold with the primaries all within 1 mm length. The intake is...

Leon - yes you are right these are double roll bearings to take the side loads. Looking forward to see an update on your M20 - very interesting build which will look really great

Mounted the rear suspension. The uprights are my own hollow casting with twin roller FAG ball bearings. So no servicing and adjustment needed. Also the stub axles and hubs are my own design made of 300m. The top clevis is just temp until the machined ones will arrive.
