Building the firewall-spider wings for mounting stuff. Shape figured out so now to decide which side to put the expansion and recovery tank on and get those designed and built. Also got my collectors and head exhaust flanges, now to buy some mandrel bends to hook the two together. Exciting....
For slow speed and stop And go traffic I'm a firm believer in a shroud so that the fans draw air from the total area of the radiator. But the shroud will also restrict the airflow at higher speeds. On my shroud I took the design of some cars shrouds with slots cut in so air can flow thru better...
There isn't much under it but you'll be surprised how much time you're going to spend under it. Lots to do and easy access to the bottom is definitely a plus. Mine spends most it's time over a pit and it seams like I've been under it almost as much as up top.
Have you looked at Supertrap disc muffler system or if anyone on here has used them. One of the options I was going to look into when I get to that point. Where I run have to meet a 98 db level.
I've seen it on other fan shrouds and figure the more air I can get thru the better.
I do track and AutoX and didn't like the supplied roll bar or forward cage at all. By moving it behind the firewall I was able to get it farther out to the sides of the car and also taller. Where the supplied...
I like that, to be able to drain at the engine also. The slots in the fan shroud will be covered with flap of rubber so that excess air at speed can flow thru but at slow speeds the fans still have good pull thru the radiator.
Tim, I thought the same thing. It may or may not cool better but now I have a a way to drain it. When it's at the top it does make it tight with the double snorkel nose but I plan on modifying that also for better air flow.
Finished bending the rest of the a/c and heater lines. Painted with
zinc chromate primer then wrapped with insulation and double wall shrink sleeve for chafe protection. Need to finish clamping on final assembly. Next up are the firewall wings on each side, Expansion tank and lines from engine...
Paul, I'm in the process of doing mine now and a 11/2 tube with insulation and shrink sleeve does fit. I've got a lot going in mine. Won't have room for a crossover. If I do one it will be at the rear bulkhead.
