Winching the GT40

So I have installed a winch in my trailer, and plan on winching the GT40 into the trailer rear first.

Does the Superformance GT40 have a natural location to tie to in the rear?

Will need to look for the pictures. Use a sling that threads through the rear extension by the quick-jacks and hook the fairlead to the the eyes of the sling. You will need a sling about 5 feet long to do this.

My Porsche G50 has a cast aluminum transverse rear mount that I use as an anchor for my tilt trailer winch. It requires only about a 3 foot sling. Winching a mid-engine car on to the trailer bed from the rear places its center of gravity forward on the trailer, producing more favorable tongue weight on the hitch.

Eric, for what it's worth I've also used a winch on the front of my Superformance GT40 as well, attached to the black bar in front of the radiator. When I do that I just make sure that the strap is attached at either end of the bar and not in the middle.

Thanks Dave!

My trailer does not have a side door, and with the engine in the rear of the GT40 it made sense to me to winch the car in backwards. I did some calculations and I need a set of extended ramps so the nose does not drag. I will most likely go with race ramps.

Eric;

Due to its long nose and low ride height, I had to use a pair of short ramps to get my car onto my 18" Jimglo tilt trailer without scraping its nose on the ground. I made a pair of ramps using a few pine 2x4s and 1/2" plywood. I cut the 2x4s diagonally on a small bandsaw and glued & screwed the plywood on to both sides. To transport them, I run my rear tires about 1/3 of the way on the ramps which secure them. You can see a little of the white ramps in this photo that I took in Wendover, NV two weeks ago. The second picture shows how long and low the nose is on my car- probably more of a problem than on a GT40. Ramps are not that hard to make.
