GTD chassis # 17789

This is turning out to be a pretty muddy pool and I'm only putting my two pennyworth into it because Stuart passed away last November and was a close friend of mine.
For what it's worth, it was always my understanding that this car was a joint project between Stuart and Nigel. I know their relationship soured and ended up (as you can tell) fairly acrimoniously. I'm sure Stuart would still fight his corner if he was still around.
Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if the true picture lies somewhere between the two versions - with both Stu and Nigel working on the car's construction - which I can absolutely confirm was a beauty. Maybe Nigel and his son aren't aware that Stuart has passed away. But in any event, there's not a lot of point in prolonging further points scoring on the subject and Ron in Australia has come out of it with plenty of good background material, which he values! I'm therefore hoping that this post will help to quieten the whole thing down.

Hi Rob,

Sorry to hear of Stuart’s passing.

The only muddy pool in all of this was to hide Dads efforts in the car. Not once has there ever been reference to Dad in any of the bits I’ve been reading on the Internet. Just wrong!

I don’t wish to fall out with anyone, I just feel that the other side of the story should be heard.

Simon,

Thank you for adding to the history on this car. FWIW I fully understand why you would want your father's involvement in this car to be recognised. Thank you to Rob Bloom for what I believe to be a very fair and accurate statement. Stuart was also a good friend to me & his recent passing was indeed a very sad loss.

I talked with Stuart at length about the 'Blue' car & the meticulous build. He always made it very clear to me that it was a joint venture that sadly dissolved once the car was completed. Both your father and Stuart should be congratulated on their skills. The GT40 community is a very small pool indeed & hopefully the waters have now been cleared and the matter laid to rest.

If you are local to Braunton & you see a silver GT40 running around please do say hello, I'm always happy to talk GT40's :)

Kind regards
Julian
