I'm working on the curved cover that sits between the rear of the upper front suspension mount and the front of the upper shock mount. drawing only gives 1 true projection which is a top down view. Thought I had it correct but mistakenly drew the side projection parallel to the vehicle and not perpendicular to the upper suspension axis. So I am now trying to draw it for a third time. It has been a busy few weeks. I have managed to remove two other projects from the shed, so I am not free to concentrate on the GT40. Haven't been doing a lot on it as I have been trying to spend time with the family whilst the weather is good.

Don't know if it will look much different, lots of little detail tweaks that are mostly obscured by the overlapping panel joins.

I had started on the purple conical shaped rolled section that sits over the top of the upper suspension axis between the front mount and the shock mount, got stuck with that and then decided i needed to rough in the side panel to finish it off. Both the side panel and the purple one are still not right and i need to go back and finish them off.

Looking good Ryan.

Working on trying to close in the top of the pedal box area.
Have started drawing up the pedal box mounts, have also done the pedal box casting as well. Not sure where/how I will get one at this stage. Problem for the future. Am now working on the roof of the foot well. Have a few things to go back and fix and a bunch of other items on the punch list. So many little details to keep track of. Still enjoying it.

Tunnel and rear fire wall progress in the cad model. Seat belt mount is not correct but i am trying to think ahead here to what i will require for registration.
(Note some of the curved flanges are also not modeled due to software limitations, i plan to add these in when the flat patterns for cutting are generated)

what an amazing project.. keep chipping away at it, as long as you keep going you'll get to the finish line. I enjoy seeing your steps along the way.

I have been a bit slack with the updates. Will try and get a few done to bring you all up to speed.
Earlier in the year I managed to get a mirror out of an e type jag (that’s what the seller said). I have had it re silvered but it hasn’t come up as desired. The glass has some pitting in it that is causing too many issues. I think the way forward will be to get another newer mirror element that slightly larger, and get that cut down to the required size. If I can get one out of another car then it should still hopefully have the wedged shape to the glass that will allow the dip function to work (is that critical in a GT40?)

Another one of the items I had been chasing was some MK IV zephyr dash vents. I wanted these to see how they worked in with the rest of the dash structure and work out the rest of the vent system. CAD work for the rest of my dash structure has progressed a bit since these photos.

I also picked up another gauge for the dash, a CAV Ammeter. Hopefully this one is close enough and works. Appears to be NOS.
I’m not sure if I have mentioned it but a while back I acquired a speedo as well. I have no idea what it’s out of as there are not many 200mph cars from the 60s. It has a short flexible cable that screws into the back that acts as a reset button for the trip counter.
Can anyone shed some light on what or where this gauge came from?

also, what am I missing from the back of the speedo and where can I get it.

Lucky you !
i have a spare one of those somewhere and pretty sure somebody described it as a Mk V gauge.:)

I have no idea James. I don’t even know if it works. The picture is from the eBay add at the time. Was listed as broken and in need of repair as it was stuck at 55MPH (88 would have been cooler) but when I pulled it out of the box here it had shaken itself loose and was back to 0.

This is my NOS Mk.V speedo

Although not identical it does bear the same part number. The inside of mine is painted red which confirms it as Mk.V although I know the provenance of this one so I know exactly what it is.

I don't know if the type you have was fitted to any Mk.Vs, I would have to research that but it is possible. It's also possible that it was made for a GT40 replica.

Regards,

Graham.
