the design of the front and rear upright for a GT40 MK1

Hello ,
I am looking for advice on the design of the front and rear upright for a GT40 MK1.

Currently I am studying all the chassis part, before starting to realize.
Just my skills are limited and I don't have as many as most here on the forum.
I have notions and knowledge for certain things,
this is why I am going to embark on making this magnificent and amblematic car.
So I have this project to build this GT40 but also learning at the same time.
So I appeal to all of you.
I will use an Audi V8 with an Audi gearbox.
In photo 1 here is the plan seen from the rear.
In photo 2 the plan seen from above and front face.
In photo 3 front and rear view.
Could you also tell me the origin of these plans, who is the author? If anyone knows and has already worked with.
In photo 4 and 5, here are rear uprights that were produced by a company, I would like to know who produces them and in Europe if this is possible?
I am looking for plans on the front and rear supports with the lower and upper wishbones, also the anti-roll bars and
for in front of the creamer. As well as the rear transmission gimbals.
Or also internet sites which sell the parts, a complete kit, being able to put rims with only one central nut, like the GT40 at their origin as in photo 7.
With rims of 15 inches.
I would like to be able to develop here, this part of the design, because I also think that it can be useful to all those who want to make this car.
On the other hand, to be in contact with people in France who have already achieved or are in the process of doing so.
Thanks again for your replies.

FYI these are not my photos, if it bothers, I removed them
Sincerely, Olivier.

Good morning all.

I'm studying to build a GT40 MKI, and currently I'm struggling with the choice of the engine, gearbox and carburetor part.
Could you tell me, which complete new FORD engine to take that can develop 300 HP as well as the type of gearbox that can be coupled easily, and what type of caburator to adapt.
This car is not for racing or competing.
Namely that I would have a budget of around 10,000 € for everything.

Then could you also point me to websites that sell Ford engines in France, Europe or the United States.

Thank you in advance for your answers.

Hi, another option: Audi 4.2 V8, Audi O1E gearbox (DQS for best ratio) audi shafts, GT Forte uprights to take Audi bearings. Ford Granada mk2 front uprights.

Best of luck with €10k budget.
I blew that budget on my gearbox.

Hi Oliver, have you considered completing an abandoned project? There has to be some around given how many kits have been sold over the years. Doing that will save you several hundred hours (conservative estimate) of digging around, fabricating and reinventing the wheel.

On the quest for uprights, there are several vendors, however the car will work best if you choose uprights that work with your chassis suspension pick up points. Just because you can make control arms join uprights to a chassis doesn't mean the car will be fun or safe to drive.

Good luck on your project, there's all kinds of knowledge available on the forum to help you along.

Cheers
Ian

Hello . Thank you again for your responses Ian and Morten as well as for your time spent responding to me. So to answer some of your questions, no I'm not going to start on an abandoned project.

I'll start from scratch. Through this project it is also to learn and improve myself.

I am going to go with a Ford 302ci engine of 300 HP probably mated to an Audi type gearbox and I know the model I need.
I will have to buy a part + clutch to be able to adapt the gearbox to the engine. In budget I would be around 10 000 €.

And yes Ian, I will spend several hours and I will take my time to get it done well. I set myself between 3 and 4 years max to finish this project.
Of course for some things I will call on professionals.
Regarding the uprights , I will look more at what is done on the site. By taking all possible dimensions.
Of course, we will have to check several data so that the front and rear axles can provide safe driving.
And there I think that it will not be obvious for me, I have to make sketches of "Jeantaud" and "Bobillier" among others.
I was able to do tests via a simulator on a website, and apparently it gives me a very satisfactory result. But approndir.

Still a lot of time to spend studying.

Olivier.

I have alot of old spare parts from my builds, I’ll have a look through. Emptying my garage. Perhaps something could help you on your build. I can always bring it with me next time in Europe.

Kind regards

Hi Oliver, the great thing about starting from scratch is the freedom to improve the breed rather than work within the constraints of another design.

We've seen some amazing craftsmanship and ingenuity applied to GT40 replicas here on the GT40s Forum.

Best of luck on your project.

Cheers
Ian

Thank you for your encouragement Ian and Morten, it's really nice to you.
Yes why not meet Morten, it will be with great pleasure.
Parce que tout le monde a aussi de belles histoires à raconter et vous pouvez passer chez moi en chemin avant de vous rendre dans le sud de la France.

I still want to get closer to the official version on certain points.
Still for me it's a hell of a challenge.
I know I wouldn't be 100% the real GT40.

Already because of the design of the chassis, which is going to be a spacial chassis.
But as you say Ian, yes I will leave myself a part in the realization for a personal touch.

I have plans, 2 versions. I am thinking of mixing the 2, because on a plan, the front part poses some difficulties for me for the realization of the upper and lower triangles. And on the other side, there is only one central beam between the passenger and the driver, this does not suit me because of the stiffness, I prefer the plan with 2 central beams.

If you are interested, I can develop my reasoning plans in a future message. Yes there are really very beautiful things on this forum, and then to learn from everyone. It's been a lot of reading in the last 4 months.

Thank you to you 2.
Olivier

On the plans you posted....BW is Brian Wolf or Wolfe not sure. He was in the US and a replica guy (GT40 and Diablo). He made some simple main chassis drawings (like your GT40 ones) probably 20 to 25 years ago. (I've been around replicas too long, LOL) I acquired the ones you have when they first came out along with his Diablo plans. I was building Diablos. I have not studied his GT40 plans as I have a set of originals and Chris Arden's, so no need to try and reinvent the wheel completely. I will likely go my own direction. The plans I did study fairly closely back then was BW's Diablo chassis plans. I also bought NAERC plans and Chassisworks 1st and 2nd design. And jigged an OE chassis. BW would probably work but there are NO suspension plans and I don't think they will work with any OE spec suspension parts unless the chassis is modified to match. The plans kind of leave you on your own for suspension. C5/C6 Corvette suspensions are cheap in the US and very, very nice. That's probably the direction I'm going. I have fabricated suspension arms and uprights. And it takes me as long (or longer) to fabricate and hang the 4 corners as it does for me to build the main chassis structure. I'm just going to eliminate all of that fab work and use C5/C6. It may not be "authentic" but definitely not a downgrade, especially for a street car.

Hi olivier. I am building the gt forte design and like in barts post i too like chris ardens design with the c5 vette suspension, next chassis i build will incorporate vette suspension most likely. Any way i have some drawings i want to share with you. They dont have all the measurements but to me this doesnt matter because i will draw and scale them to my own requirements and i might get some of the other gt forte builders to make measurements for me if need be.

Vette Rear Control arms / geometry may work out well. Front Control arms are quite long, so you would either need to narrow your footbox or carry a lot of positive offset in your wheels in order to keep them within the arches.

Good Morning all.

Thanks to you Bryan Koehler
Thank you to you for this information.
I was thinking of this also to use the rear end of a Corvette.
But maybe not easy to find the parts in France.

Thank you to you, also for this information, Randy V

Currently, I am studying the entire rear part of the chassis with the rear axle. To understand the Dynamics and the kinematics ... smile ...
On the one hand, I would like to put 15-inch rims with a tire width between 225 and 235 with a central hub like the GT40 Original.
On the other hand, trim the rear fenders to accept the desired tire size.
And all this with a Renault gearbox mated to a Ford 302ci engine. So I hope that it will hold and that I will find the right reinforcements to do.
I am going to leave with this type of plan, see in photo. I don't know the origin of this plan, I found it on the site. If you know exactly where it comes from, it will be a pleasure to read you and know what type it is closest manufacturer.
And I will order a complete hull in France, from Bongarini.

Randy, you may know off of the top your head without me having to scale some original drawings I have. What is the width of the original footbox? With corvette C5/C6 I can get the footwell to about 31 inches wide because you can get the lower arms slightly under the footwell and uppers of course on the outside of the footwell.

Sorry Bart, I don’t have those dimensions and no access to an original car to gather them. @JIMMYMAC would you happen to have the footwell dimensions for Bart?

Thanks. I have a set of the original blueprints that were circulating a while back saved somewhere. I'll dig up and compare.

Hello to you, Bart Roberts
I can take the liberty to ask you to have a copy of your original plans that could also help me in the construction. This would be very freindly from you, and I thank you in advance. Yours, Olivier.
