Graziano PN#?

Looking at several used transaxles out of R8 cars, what should I look for as far as part numbers? Some are older (mid-oughts to early teens) but have lower miles. I've already found E-gears for fairly cheap that are likely right out, I understand they can be converted to manual but that's beyond my scope of how-to knowledge and associated cost of conversion.

Is it worth buying a used one and having it serviced and re-geared? 2k for gears seems to be what I've heard, so ~1,200 for shipping 3-ways (unless I can get it drop shipped to a service location), $1500 servicing charge barring no other problems, so I should look for about a $6-7k list price to come in under a new transaxle and the associated same costs of re-gearing and shipping. Seems like that would be a fair price for a used unit and taking into account the risk of a used unit and that further work may be needed. Any thoughts?

Try and find a used V10 Graz. They don’t require machining of the case for the drop gear install. Get it sent to Ron McCall for tear down/inspection/forward shaft removal and drop gear install.

I see many for sale on EBay but be aware many claim their’s to be from a V10 but are not. The serial tag will be proof of the origin.

Here is a picture of a V10 serial tag. The third line shows the serial number ending with KVJ. This is proof of it being a V10 model. If the serial number ended with KBA then it’s from the V8. The V10 model also has slightly better gearing.

Thank you for the info. I travel overseas a bit and though to check for used units there, and they do exist, but I was unfamiliar with the SN# as to what to look for. Incidentally, got passed by a Lamborghini Aventador doing about 160 mph on the Autobahn tuesday. We were doing 100. In a Ford Fiesta, lol. The sound of being passed by a V12 at that speed is…surprising.

Hi Jeff,

Strongly advise against starting with an r-tronic / e-gear AMT version of the gearbox. There are a lot of differences between the two, and the change to internals required is pretty extensive.

Cheaper in the long run to just buy the MT version.

Best,
John

Thanks for the confirmation, John. I didn’t want to deal with the conversion process, and it’s good to know that I can avoid them.

Which one is 45J or 45D, if anyone knows? R-Tronic? E-Shift? Older transaxle out of Gallardos, so I don’t know if there was a change in PN or these are the wrong type.
