Any build paperwork

Hello all, went down to southern gt at the weekend and have my heart set on one now! I know there is no build documentation for this. But I believe there is a gtd one knocking about. Just after it for a bit of toilet reading to get the general gist. Has anyone got a copy floating around they could send me?
Thanks

Glad that one worked.
This build log of one of the first SGTs may be helpful.

Started reading through in my lunch break mate. Going to go through it when Im back home! Trying to gain as much Info as I can. Especially in regards to panneling. Did you buy the panneling kit or cut them yourself

Hi James, I would recommend build logs and forum members better than any build manual, from my experience the body and frame is based on the original so not much aligned even then!! I did a Model A ford a while back and tried to sort shut lines, etc until a felloe Ford A chap pointed out they were pretty shit when they left the factory by todays standards :)
Build logs for sure (although mine is very out of date) and lots of questions plus Mick is a gold mine of info and has always really helped me when I get stuck or despondent.
Where are you based?
Re the panels I guess you could make them yourself, I got a kit it was good they still need work but I think since mine Mick may have got that sorted he just could not get any bugger to do them right even with the CAD files, I think one firm cut them back to front!!
Go for it though, its a great product and a really nice bunch on here, once you build a 40 anything is a piece of cake after!!

I've been going through as many as I can find. Love it. I met mick and carrol at the Weekend and what they don't know isn't worth knowing. Lovely couple! I'm in Suffolk mate but willing to travel anywhere for a chinwag I'm going to make the panels myself as I'm an aircraft engineer by trade so aluminium work is my bread and butter... Apparently looking forward to the challenge. I've just nearly finished a nut and bolt restoration on a BMW e30. And found it a breeze to be honest. Everything done myself zinc plating, respray engine swapped. Loved it! Anything you wish you did differently while building?

While you are building and planning start looking for a good pre 1975 302 block which will clean up with a +30 thou rebore. This will make the emissions at IVA and in the future much easier as it will only need to pass with no visible smoke. Getting hard to find in the UK now but they do pop up from time to time. You are only allowed one used major component. This is usually the engine. The Ford blocks have a date code cast into them.

Lovely stuff! I'll keep an eye out. I spoke to mick he advised builting it up to a 331 or 347. Just keeping an eye out for one now. If you see of one about mate please let me know and I'll jump on it!

Well the second one will be a lot easier that's for sure!! Mostly ok once I got the confidence to trim stuff, modify bits, I went EFi which was a ball ache should be worth it in the end Mick swears by it but its a whole lot more work but that's part of the fun, I found with bits like that you are always the first or close to so its a bit on your own but plenty of info out there.
Body I did not enjoy to start with but as I did more it got easier and more enjoyable, my loom was shocking but Mick has a new one now which is better.
If you are going old school 302 pre emissions I would look now for that they are hens teeth now as are UN1 boxes if that's the way.
Ah well e30 German see all the bits fit, nice cars though, me I am old enough to be an E21 fan, had a 3231 bloody lovely shite handling but such fun, could not afford the Alpina and too young to insure one but I did the boy racer bit with stripes and spoiler.
Wealth of info at SGT and so easy to approach and chat to, have you put your order in?

Yes mick told me to go down the Injection route. I think I will do. Yep plan to go Renault box with a 302. Bloody love an e21 aswell. Sadly I'm not old enough to have seen e30s on the road daily. I would love an alpina, but they are silly money I could build something similar for much less. My e30 has the e36 328i m52 engine in. The single vanos one swapped it out and replaced the naff M10 in it. Got to have racing stripes and a spoiler tho! Yes Sgt are great. Went down to Southampton for a chat. And I was amazed! Just hope the lads taking it over are as good!
Yep chassis ordered mate number 72. They reckon it'll be ready to collect next month. Need to crack on and get my e30 out of the garage to make space.... Its not even water proof yet. Got the last of the painting to wrap up next couple of weekends!

Check out the parts and machining costs at Real Steel. You can certainly assemble one yourself but you will need some machining work done such as rebore, decking, one piece oli seal, balancing etc etc. not to mention dyno or rolling road time. I have sent you a PM (see top right of this page) Let me have your email and I can send you some info that you may find useful.

Great stuff similar to what I did engine and gearbox wise then, god mine was #54 and it seems like yesterday I thought I would have it done in 12 months!! Its been over 3 years now but work gets in the bloody way, only get an hour or two each evening but planning to hide for a few days to push it all on, must also update my build log. We need a time machine, my dad had a 301 bat mobile Alpina as a work car, they are a bloody fortune now, as would be his Lotus Cortina, he paid £726 for it with a factory vinyl roof!! Still has the bill

Thanks mate. Ideally want to rebuild one myself but I suppose it's an option if I can't find one in time. But I'm surprised how cheap they are
Got mine from then as they seem to have a stock of 302 blocks they did some work and I finished off, nice blokes, Mike sent me some really good info when I was at your stage well worth a read
