Is it OK to mount a/c service ports horizontally?

It would save me a lot of headaches if I can mount my a/c high pressure (and possibly low pressure as well) ports so that the lay horizontally, rather than vertical. Will this cause any problems? I found a photo in a MotorTrend article about retrofitting a/c into an old muscle car, it looks like they installed both ports on the compressor itself with the ports sitting horizontal, so I'm guessing it's OK? Thanks!

Hi,
the question is, what type of compressor do you have ? pistons, rotative, flapper?, if your compressor is a "normal" 5-7 piston (variable stroke or not) then your compressor needs actually stand upas per factory origins, because small sump is integrated to catch the oil when not in use,
in most w-shop manuals, when replacing compressor you need to drain the oil , to find out how much oil was the compressor,
spiral type compressors (such as g spiral compressors or flapper compressors dont have "oil-sump"

on this car the compressor(I think 5piston fix volume) the compressor is fully upside down could function , I dont know really
