Another Superformance GT40

I was notified this week that my MK I GT40P 2442 is complete, and now awaits crating and loading on a freighter. It is a standard wide body, LHD, rear spoiler, full leather interior, stainless exhaust, done in the Gulf livery. The only thing that may be “unusual is that I did have them include the Dynamat sound/heat dissipation lining. I managed to secure an RBT transaxle, which will be mated to a Prestige Motorsports stroked 351W, along with the 8 stack Borla EFI. There are some items I haven’t selected yet, such as fire systems, rear camera, outside mirrors, but I will have a few months to make those decisions.

Congratulations! Now the hardest part of the wait begins! How do Superformance differentiate wide body and narrow body variants, it looks more narrow body in the rear and I don't think they add any width to the front do they?

Hi Bart. So glad to see your car close to the finish line. Prestige built my 363 stroker motor about three years ago. They recommended Holley Terminator X EFI so I went with that and am very happy. I also have the same Borla injection system that you have. Prestige is an absolutely wonderful company to work with. Although the driving season in Montana is shorter than mine in Charlotte, you beat me in terms of scenery and lack of traffic on the road. I look forward to seeing video of your car once it's running.

Before your car hits the road, I highly recommend you have a professional install paint protection film on the critical areas of the car. My car has more than 21,000 miles on it and the paint looks like the car just came out of the factory. I think this is really important for these cars since they sit so low. Happy to provide additional input on that by phone if you'd like.

Here is the rear view camera system I use. It syncs to my iPhone on an app and it works really well.

Again, congratulations!

Thank you Dave. Although I haven’t yet received my motor, I agree with you on Prestige Motorsports. Prior to placing an order with them I had contacted a well known engine supplier, recommended by the two shops I was considering to do the finishing of my car, after six phone calls to without the courtesy of a return call, I gave up. Placed a call to Prestige and within five minutes I was talking with Doug. I had an estimate emailed to me before we even ended our phone conversation. It listed every single component, nut and bolt going on the motor.

Paint protective film is something that I definitely want to do on my car. What I am not sure of is what are the “critical” areas that need to be done? Thought I might have to cover the entire car. I would certainly appreciate talking to you about that and a few other questions I have.

I also appreciate the heads up on the rear view camera system. I’ll check it out.

Our driving season is definitely shorter than I would like, but your right, the scenery is spectacular and the traffic is nothing compared to Los Angeles, California, where I lived until three years ago. Look forward to getting some pictures of my car up in Glacier National Park, which is less than 30 minutes from my house.

Hi Julian,

Your right, the last month has been the hardest because I received pictures when it came out of the paint shop awaiting final assembly. Kept checking my email 20 times a day awaiting completion.

Superformance offers two variants. The first one is the “standard wide body”, it will accommodate 8” front wheels and 10” rear wheels. The second variant is the “extra wide body”, which will handle the 8” wide front wheels”, but will handle 12” or 13” wide rear wheels. They do not add any width to the front. I was actually leaning toward the extra wide body with the wider rear wheels, but got talked/advised out of it, due to a lack of DOT approved tire choices.

I like the compactness of the accessory drive system. Can you tell me what system it is and is that an AC compressor hiding around the corner?

You live 30 minutes from Glacier National Park? I'm so jealous. Such an awesome part of our country! If you have a vendor that can apply PPF on the entire car, that's great. My PPF covers the entire front clip, the rocker panels and the edge of the rear clamshell where rock chips would otherwise damage the paint.

Yes, Dave, I live 30 minutes from GNP, but in the GT40, I can probably cut that down to about 20 minutes. Plenty of open roads to stretch the car’s legs. There is a vendor here who can apply the PPF to whatever portion of the car I want, however, I have heard their reputation is not to good. I’ll probably have it done either in Scottsdale, Arizona, where the car is being finished, or So. California.

Still waiting for the arrival of P2442. It left Port Elizabeth on September 24th, with an estimated ETA to the Port of Long Beach on October 17th. That sounded too good to be true, and it was. ETA was then pushed back to November 24th, over one month delay. Then in a matter of 24 hours the ETA was pushed back another two weeks to December 7th. The waiting has become very frustrating. A delay of over one month and a second delay of two weeks. Hopefully this will be the last delay before arrival.
