AP mk1 twin turbo

Here's a cute little project.

How big a PITA has it been hanging the front upper control arms? I'll drill and tap a 1/4" bolt in the middle to hold this little piece of CNC plasma cut goodness and the bolts will be captive.

Tomorrow I'll remove the floor pan and weld in some drop for the seat. I can't see how 1" will hurt.

Today, I dropped the floor pan 1.25"

It was some much needed practice. That's about 25' of weld.

I also glassed the back of the modded set. I have a space heater running under it tonight, so I'll be set up hard my mid day tomorrow. Now I will have the seat in position so I can proceed with steering column length and pedal locations.

I'm not really proud of those welds, but they'll hold for sure. I was never that good with aluminum. For some reason with AC, I can't keep from dipping the tungsten in the puddle or tapping it with the filler. But the new 250A welder with the water cooled torch is a hause. It ran 150A 100% duty cycle for 10 minutes straight and the torch stayed cool to the touch... at least on the non business end.

welds are better than I can do 4sure. looks good. I was thinking about adding a steel plate under car the size of seat to sandwich the aluminum between floor & seat mount.I’m not to crazy about just mounting to the aluminum only.

The seats mount near the outside, so it's not as bad as if you were sitting in the middle of the pan. And the kink in my pan makes it more rigid. I'm noodling on some sort of a rail milled out of billet aluminum to mount the seats where 2 pins can be pulled and the seats lift out. Imagine changing a belt at the autoparts on a road trip.

One thing top of my list is a air tight cabin. Where the fuel fillers enter the tank was a bad detail. I have an airtight solution.

Yesterday I bought a sheet of 18ga cold rolled for some of the areas where aluminum isn't the best option.

My steering column is lurking in the background. I need to get some pics of it up. It'll use the Ghia turn signal and is self canceling.

Very Nice.agree, not big fan of that being open so I was thinking of doing similar covers but out of aluminum so it’s removable.

Welded mounting bracket and A/C mount, made pipes and a fan shroud.

I was a bit sidetracked with work, house projects and this.

Hope to get back on it. Transaxle should be any day now... if I didn't just jinx it.
