SPF headlight bulb and fog light bulb

I have been looking at old threads for this information, but most of the threads are really old.

Does anyone know what the current Bulb's are for the Headlights and Foglights. You would think for the money we spend on these cars the Owners Manual would actually be worth a shit. lol Come on Lance step up, and get us some good information with all the money you are making off of us.

Thanks guys,

Rob Klein

I would love to see how SPF mounted the headlight into the clam. Any pictures you could provide of the mounting frames and how they bonded them to the fiberglass would be appreciated. The original GT40 Marchal main light used an R2 bulb which is a tungsten 45w/40w bulb. I do not know what SPF uses as their headlight glass is a repro item made for them. I believe you can buy an upgraded H4 halogen light (burner) assembly mounted to an R2 base. Consult someone light Daniel Stern lighting or another reputable lighting expert to be sure.

No worries, I will take the car apart today and post some pictures for others that might want to know.

Thank you--I keep a record of various parts numbers for my SPF MKII. Also, I really agree with you about the need for SPF to put out more information on the parts for the car, and have contacted them to publish a service manual as to how the car comes from the factory (one excuse I got was that people modify the cars, etc., but they come from the factory one way). Something that would also be great is that if someone would publish a cross-reference guide to parts used in these cars which come from other cars or are made by typical suppliers, like light bulbs.

If you use the adaptor rings to add LED to the headlamps (I did on my last SPF GT40) be sure to have the LED emitters at the same distance from the base of the bulb as the H4 bulb. Many are shallower or longer which drastically changes the focal point of the light. The first LEDs I tried had almost NO difference between low and high beam as the focal point was way off. Do some Googling and see the difference in LEDs. The "more LED emitters" on the bulb does not relate to the amount of light/lumens, the focal point does. Also, many have a cooling fan built into the bulb base. Some of these will foul on the plastic cover behind the bulb access. On my car heating the plastic and bulging it about 1/4" was all needed to give clearance. The bulge did foul slightly on the tires at full lock but not enough to cause a problem.

I switched to LED's many years ago. Makes a world of difference. I couldn't tell which lights were dimmer. My original SPF headlights or the Smiths gauges.

I just bought two Hella h4 60/55 watt t45 bulbs for my GTD . I got them on Amazon for $3.50 each. They look just like what I removed. They arrived today so I haven't installed them yet. The t43 base wont fit my lights which were OEM GTD. The smaller base (t43) is the one with 3 tabs. The t45 is a full 360 degree base.

I worked with Gil, great customer service btw. I have enclosed my invoice for the Headlights, markers, and I went with Yellow fog lights. I realize you can get all of this stuff cheaper, but I wanted to make sure it was going to work with my wiring harness, and if something did not work correctly I wanted to be able to talk to a person.

Besides this guy has put all kinds of time and energy into knowing the lights, and making sure it works with classic cars. Lot's of work.
