Doug’s RCR Jaguar D Type Build.

As for engine updates, I decided to forgo the RCR provided radiator and went with a D Type radiator and tank from Pro Alloy. Some modification needed, but it fits. Also added a cooling reservoir for the automatic transmission lines… might have to rethink it later, but for now, it looks like...

Doug’s RCR Jaguar D Type Build.

As for the throttle and brake… I upgraded the brake fluid reservoirs for aesthetic purposes. I modified the RCR supplied Triton brake/clutch setup and added a few custom designed pieces. Also added a button type brake light switch instead of using a hydraulic switch in the brake line. It’s...

Haven’t updated in a while, and to answer your question Randy, not 100% on my exhaust setup yet. Currently leaning towards the side pipe method, but I love the clean look of an underneath exhaust. I’m holding off on the decision until I have the front and rear suspension installed and...

Doug’s RCR Jaguar D Type Build.

I haven’t posted in a while. I hope everyone had a lovely holiday season. I took a page from the BoC and made a battery mock-up. I thought of using the Odyssey 1100, but they are currently hard to find and this Napa battery worked fine when I had the XK6 on the run stand and isn’t that much...

Doug’s RCR Jaguar D Type Build.

I was running out of room in the transmission tunnel, and after much staring and head scratching, it occurred to me that since I have to build a small platform for the gear selector anyway, why not just make it the length of the opening and build it so that it could be removed with a few minutes...

Doug’s RCR Jaguar D Type Build.

Chuck, a thousand thanks. Your expertise is always welcome and I often find myself going back to your build log to consult the ‘Book of Chuck’. I might go so far as to suggest that you edit your very first post to include an index to make things easier to find. =) I’ll certainly take your...

Thank you. I finally found a good quality set that should do the trick.

Doug’s RCR Jaguar D Type Build.

Tech question for you fine folks. I attempted to align the front wheels to be reasonably close to straight, and in order to do so, I basically extended the rod ends to the point where they’re only hanging on by a few threads. Surely this cannot be right. Are there any other methods for...

Doug’s RCR Jaguar D Type Build.

Even though I’m forced to use an automatic, I’m still wanting my D Type to look the part when sitting still. Since I’m using a transmission from a Series 2 XJ6 sedan, it made sense to just get a gear selector from a Series 2 XJ6 sedan. David at EverydayXJ.com had the part for a great price. A...

I decided to order a customized fuel tank from RCI. The one provided by RCR is an off the shelf model, and while it’s a perfectly fine product, in my opinion, the design and layout is inefficient and potentially problematic because of the solid back-end of this D Type kit. It would be a major...

Doug’s RCR Jaguar D Type Build.

That’s a good idea, but anything too thick and it interferes with the hub quick release action. Thank you all. The input is appreciated. There’s nine bolts, and they were all torqued down with my NM wrench and they didn’t budge, strip, cone, etc. I will revisit this and look into upgrading the...

I appreciate that. They’re thread-locked on and are only there to keep the bolts from falling out. The stainless steel bolts only get lateral stress, and the work load is divided nine ways.

For many reasons, such as getting in and out with an artificial leg, theft deterrent, etc, the removable steering wheel adapter provided by RCR is quite nice. But, the Nardi wheel options aren’t as historically accurate for my taste. I don’t like the ‘T’ shape spokes that were common on the E...

I didn’t get such a warning, but I knew I’d be checking, loosening, adding thread-lock, and torquing them tight again anyway. Still, it’s one detail I wish hadn’t been overlooked. I’ll make it happen somehow.

Hello all. Have posted in a long while, but momentum is starting to increase slightly thanks to parts arriving and more free time. More posts to come, but for now, I wanted to warn all of you D Typers to most definitely inspect every bolt on the rolling chassis when you receive it. The upper...

    Chuck's Jaguar D Type Build

Chuck, have you decided what type of restraints you’ll use and how you’ll install them? Lap belt? Shoulder belt? Four point harness?

Doug’s RCR Jaguar D Type Build.

Thanks all. I’m weighing my options for manual brakes. I modified (butchered) the Tilton pedal box that RCR provided to be brakes only. I’ll mount it above the footwell and design my own 6:1 or 7:1 pedal for it. Not sure of the exact placement yet or if I will use the onboard reservoir or...

Doug’s RCR Jaguar D Type Build.

Gentlemen, I need some sage advice to quell my concerns. My occasional tendency to overthink and over-engineer things has taken me down a rabbit hole as of late. My idea of incorporating power brakes into my D Type, while feasible, has made things more complex. This takes away from one of the...

I’m happy to report that the brake caliper fitment issue has been solved. A quick update from my previous post about it… So after being told by RCR that I was sent the wrong calipers, it turns out I was sent the correct ones after all. Not sure how the confusion happened, but there it is...

Doug’s RCR Jaguar D Type Build.

Thank you Chuck. I looked at every possible mounting location for the electric power steering motor and it is just too big to be used. I spent the weekend installing the steering setup pretty much like you did. I did some test turns with the engine and transmission in the chassis and it...
