Would I need to have the cylinder fully compressed or could I have it half compressed. That would at least prove the seal. Then to get it in o would have to release fluid but if it fails when it's then installed, it will mean the push rod is Too long. To be honest I may just shorten pushrod anyway.

It’s similar. The cup is a seal that sits in a groove in the piston. A photo on post #47 shows it’s position. It’s looking like I can see the bottom of the seal but not quite the flap part, but it sure would be close.

It its hard to tell from the small hole. Will get the magnifying glasS on it to see if I can work it out. If I shorten the pushrod then that should allow the piston to sit forward more.

I thought the same thing. Surely it Would have to have a substantial amount of pressure to blow past a seal. If it has air in the system would that cause fluid to leak out? I just thought it wouldn’t work properly. The issue isn’t that it’s not working, it’s that it is spewin out past the seal.

Hey Ian, So I started some investigating, when I pushed the slave into position it has actually pushed the piston the full length back in the cylinder. Is there supposed to be a gap to allow fluid behind? should I shorten the pushrod? As the fluid comes in from the side, it might be squirting...

so in regards to alignment, it basically gives no room for error. it slides into a hole with a perfect fit and is push in to a point were a bolt goes through transaxle to hold it in position. there is no adjustment for back and forth. as i put the slave in the piston is pushed back into bore...

I would imagine the alignment shouldn't change as it was fine before and the slave cylinder slides into the hole so there is no alignment option. Unless it's either always been like that or something has happened? The only other issue I had was the starter pinion disappeared at the same time...

If the pedal goes all the way back would that indicate the slave is travelling all the way back?

I will have to get back to you on the diameters, however it's the same as what's been in the car since 2005 so wouldn't think the issue would just show up now?

It's the Audi 100 5 speed. There is a spring pushing the piston towards the clutch fork and it can't get past the internal retaining ring. I'm pretty sure it is still working the clutch but have to try and test that to make sure. Hopefully get that done tonight or tomorrow. It was leaking...
