917 robustness: Demonstration

Hi everyone,

just found an interesting pic in my archieves showing how the factory
tested and demonstrated the 917`s robustness in order to attain utmost
reliability on the track.
If you look closely, you can spot "Jenks" on the far right,
accompanied by some other factory dignitaries like Prof. Helmuth Bott.

The title should be (In German) "I thought you were bringing the ramps"

Post more of the old 917 shot if you have them!

Sandy,

your wish is my command.

See a pic of the official press launch of the 917 at the Geneva Motor show
in March 69. Standing in front of the car are Joseph "Seppi" Siffert, Gerhard Mitter, Vic Elford and Gerard Larousse.
Next pic shows one of the first 917 K at the press launch of the Porsche/Gulf/Wyer-cooperation late in 1969 at the Hockenheim race track, note the official road-legal numberplate at the car`s rear. It suggests, that the car was driven on the Autobahn to that event!
Then we have a rare shot of a sort of intermediate car late in 69 at the London Motor Show, displaying old fashioned 1969 Longtail and new 1970 Gulf livery.
Last but not least a shot showing best of both worlds, GT40 and 917.
Tough choice!

Marcus -

Excellent photo's!

I think in one of the Gulf Racing Videos they interview Pedro and Jo (with some translations). Interesting to here them chat about some of the racing. I think the video I have with starts with Gulf GT40's (Might be 'Don't start something you can't stop' Ferodo Brake sponsor) and the next was the Gulf John Wyer porsche campaign. Great video.
