I'm about 6-7 months into my wait time for my chassis from RCR, I've set out to re-create an "Aluminum Alloy" version of P/1046... Most of you are already familiar with the standard aluminum monocoque chassis from RCR, but I've taken this standard package a step further... The main upgrade/feature of this build will be the all-aluminum cockpit/roof (versus fibreglass) along with a few other design details from the original chassis, including; rear tubular tail mount with aluminum luggage boxes, cockpit door sill ribs, fuel tank access ports, and various other little styling cues taken from the original chassis. I'm not trying to make an exact copy, just more or less wanted to touch on some of the common cosmetic visuals you see when you walk around these cars. I'm going to finish this chassis off with a zinc chromate primer and a dark blue enamel (just like the original)

For power I am going with an all-aluminum FE 427ci big block. Aluminum C5AE (Pond) medium riser heads, paired with an aluminum C5AE (Pond) 427 block. No AC, lol. I'm still debating on transaxle and have made no decision there yet, although I do want to keep it a 4spd like the original...

I'll also be adding a few other "original" features that I'll detail as I go. But this is the basic outline of the build, more to come...

The goal.

A couple of original features I wanted to incorporate into my tribute build is the MkII wiper arm and Boeing 707 gear box and motor. I was lucky enough to source the gearbox and motor, but the wiper arm is unobtanbium. So my plan for the wiper arms is to reproduce a very close copy (I have access to a machine shop and the original wiper arm specs)

Next I was able to source some original spec/size oil cooler bottom plates so that I can re-create the original "continental" style engine and trans oil cooler(s) setup.

Checked a few boxes this week finding these parts...

Nice finds Derek. This sounds like its going to be a really cool build. I have been thinking about getting some aluminum doors built for my Lola, but don't know where to source them. I'll be following your build closely.

For info 707, 720, 727, 737 all run the same wiper motors
You may get an arm from the others that is modifiable for your car
The actual MkII wiper arm is not related to Boeing at all. It's believed to have come from a Bell helicopter. It's a really robust and beefy arm, it's such a standout feature on these MkII cars in my opinion...

Just a thought, with an oil pan that deep it might be the lowest part under the belly pan underneath your 40. If it does hang down, fabricating a skid plate like this one on a SPF MK l might give you some peace of mind! If you look at the leading portion of the skid plate you can see it has some witness marks as it has already protected the oil pan from a few scrapes! Dave.

Thanks for this, I wan't sure if this pan would fit so it was a gamble... That custom skid plate looks great!
