Checking for faulty sensors

How does one go about checking the sensors to see if there is a fault there. I have the Crank and Cam sensors on the FAST XIM ignition box. The software shows them in line and their setting, but that is an added value that you add to the software. I need to know if it is not working ala Fran with the SLC. Is it continuity, voltage, signal? Since they are magnetic in nature I am not sure how one goes about checking them.

you need a scope.
A magnetic senser (2 wire will give fluctuations on a digital meter) but it is better to see a wave form.

It will rise above the 0 volt line as a pos voltage then fall below 0 as a neg voltage.
You would expect about a 2v + and a 2v -

If your digital meter has a bar graph set it to mV and watch the bar graph not the voltage reading as it gives you a better idea.
It will rise and fall as you crank.

If it has 3 wires it is a hall effect ,it will be a square wave ,on off and if it has a 5v supply you would expect 4.7 to 5v.
It will have a 5v supply and a ground ,the gound is senser ground not chassis ground.
you will need a scope for this one ,a meter will read it but will usually give an average so you may only see 2.5v ish constant, scope is better.
