Clearing up vw/audi 012 terminology as well as g86 / g96 similarities

Is the VW 012, the vw/audi version of the 5 speed Porsche boxer transaxle called the G86?

I only ask as im trying to mate a 012 to a rotary and Kennedy Engineering said 'they have never hurd of a 012 transaxle', however in an email they do mention being able to adapt to G96 50?

Ive also read that a G86 and G96 share the same bellhousing pattern and are interchange able,

one case is here
G86 5 speed and g96 6 speed same bolt pattern? - Rennlist Discussion Forums

By chance does that mean a rotary to g96 adapter would work with the audi 012?

Thank you

012/01A is generally only known in the VW/Audi realm. the G86 looks remarkably similar to the 012. The G96 is the 0A2 in the Audi world.

Similar however it is in fact not the same? (ignoring ratio's and such)

I do see now that the g96 00 and g96 50 are in fact a different bell-housing pattern.

not sure I've not had an 012 and G86 side by side. I do know that many internal parts are interchangeable with 012 pieces.
