Fuel sender - cork gasket

I have never used any sealant on the cork gasket that seals the sending unit to the tank. Never had a leak.

But wondering if some sealant should be used.

And if so, what is recommended.

Generally cork gaskets should not have sealer applied as it allows the cork gasket to extrude out of the joint as you tension it down.

The sealant if used acts as a lubricant and allows the cork to slip and slide out of the joint.

Dimi is correct. However, I have used a very thin film of Permatex Form-a-gasket on one side of cork gaskets (on the side with the part that is removed from the car) simply for ease of removal the next time around - the cork gasket generally stays attached to the part being removed from the car (due to the bond created with the Permatex). This can be very helpful in places where it's hard to get to the other surface for cleaning off torn gasket material.
