That's some great film!

That date seems about right, jets were flying in England and Germany very early in the war, this is also confirmed by the very early US insignia, without the red center, deleted in May 1942 or the white bars added in late 1942. That early Bell jet and the Lockeed P-80 to follow, both used a early version of the DH Goblin or Ghost (I can't remember which) that the British Gave us (thanks by the way).

They actually have one of these Bell P-59 jets down in Chino, CA. I saw it last time I was there, it's being prepared for flight, but I bet they are using modern engines.
