Hello from Leonmac

Hello guys, thought its time I formally introduced myself. I have been watching and making a few post on the site for about 6 months and I'm truely in ore of the friendliness and depth of Knowledge the people have that are on hear. My back ground is very varied, be a petrol head since forever!! was into Rallying for many years and then water ski racing (Boat driver) and the last 10yrs 4x4 and off road racing. Have loved the GT40 since I had a model as a young boy (early 60s) and the Can-Am. I'm in the early stages of scratch building an M20 McLaren and any Info or pictures you might want to share would be greatly appreciated, at the moment I really need a photo of the front bulkhead and suspension layout. I will be starting a build log once I have something worth showing. Cheers Leonmac.

Looking forward to seeing your build log. And your racing exploits when you have it completed!

Best wishes,

Russ

Hi Russ, great to here from you. Been a bit quiet this month, are you having a bit of a break from it?? you guys were going pretty hard out there in Jan and it was a real shame that the time just got away on you. I look forward to seeing your progress and being able to get some of my own so you guys can give me some advice and direction. Cheers Mate.

Also trying to get some organisation back into the workshop, there’s shit for miles and nothing in it’s rightful place. Can’t find anything and there’s fibreglass dust and paint dust over everything. I just hate doing bodywork prep and paint at the same time as building the rest of the car. I’ve just about got things tidied up again now and should be posting some progress shortly.

I’m just filling in a few minutes as I wait for Repco to open, they used to be 7am – 7pm, 7 days, which was great but now they don’t open til 9 on Sundays here in ChCh. Need to buy a spanner to suit the fitting on the valley scavenge before I can install the inlet manifold.

Out of interest, where are you in the N.I. when you’re not in Oman?

Cheers,

Hi Russ, I live in New Plymouth, was a JAFA untill 98 then grew a brain and moved south. Not quite like that, I had a couple of trucks and got the contract to cart the fuel for Challenge when they Started and the base was NP. Been in the Oil Industry since 2002 and Havn't looked back. My family and I are having a weekend in Hanmer Srings in August and good friends lives I CHCH so may pop in to see them, if so would be nice to come and meet you and see your car in the flesh. Looking forward to seeing more progress and nice to see Lim introduce himself and hopefully will see some stuff from him soon.

Leon (haroo) I did send a PM but not shore if I sent it right, I sent it to Haroo rather than Leon/haroo if you didn't recieve My Email is [email protected] . Keep up the good work guys,

Cheers Leon.

Haha, I was a JAFA too! Born there just after WW2 but my oldies were from ChCh, saw the light, and moved back down here when I was about two. I don't think the expression JAFA had been coined back then...... certainly the F word wasn't in common usage in those days!

It would be good to catch up in person when you're down here in Aug. If you've got time after perving at the cars, maybe we could organise a meal out? You, me, Lim, and respective partners?

You'd better start a build log about what you're planning to do, what bits you've got, or are planning to get, and particularly about this transaxle you are planning to build. Trans are a topic of great interest on here!

Since this is an international forum the rest of the world is probably in the dark as to what a JAFA is.....

So in the interests of international understanding.....Just Another Fucking Aucklander.

Cheers,

Russ

Yes I should get one started and get some advice about this trans be for I go down a path that may have a nasty drop off. I have the LSD,Gearbox, CVs,axles and hubs and have made a start on suspension arms, when I'm home this hitch I will try to get the uprights done so Ive something to start a build log with.

Got an email from Leon/haroo today so bent ear for a bit and hes going to see if a guy he knows is happy to give me some advice.

Catch ya later guys. Leon.
