I GOT SCAMMED - BEWARE OF DOUGLAS PHILLIPS and MITCHELL71

Please regard this as a public service announcement.

Recently, I put out a "Want to Buy" message for some Lucas marker lights for my JWA car. I was answered by several well meaning members as well as the following from member, " Mitchell71" :

Are you still interested in purchasing the Lucas L 534 marker lights? If yes you can reach out to Douglas he has for sale in excellent condition. Here’s his email: [email protected]. Contact him to know if it's still available.

I emailed Douglas and over the course of several back and forth messages including pictures, we settled on a fair but expensive price and I paid him through Venmo on 12 Sep 24. On 13 Sep 24, he replied that payment was received and that I would have a tracking number for shipping ASAP. 3 days later, I queried him regarding the shipping and he replied ....." just calm down...". Last week, I contacted Mitchell71 , who said that he knows the seller personally, and Mitchell71 told me that he would reach out to the seller to get this issue adjudicated and get back to me. No contact from either one of them as of today. They are certainly working together.

Bottom line, 19 days since payment and no contact from the seller. Obviously I have been robbed. Beware of these folks-insert whatever adjective comes to mind for people whom take your money and disappear.

Hello Jim ?? Upon reading this, I immediately banned him as a member.Whenever ANYONE is looking to buy parts, it's in their best interest to ask the forum for feedback on a seller. There is a member on here, that was looking to purchase parts and someone tried to scam him (3) different times within about a month. The scam usually starts like this.

PLEASE PLEASE be very careful when putting up a wanted add.

I am sorry that this has happened to you.

I have located Mitchell71 in the database. The email with the user ID is: "[email protected]".

The Douglas name you list and the email associated with it, [email protected], is not in the GT40s.com database. Meaning, no one registered on the forum with that email address.

These lights are plentifull on ebay for MGBs etc licence plate lights, just order old ones and not the chinese copies. Use paypal and its no hassle. I probably have a box of these old lights up in the loft should you not find any from my old MGs

I’m also sorry this happened to you…
A couple of tips -
1) Ask for a telephone number where you can actually speak with the person.
2) When dealing with a substantial amount of money - consider using an escrow service.
3) Ask them if they have any problems in selling this (fill in the blanks) to an off-duty Federal Officer.

I was contacted by Mitchell71 also and Dougs pictures were not even what I was looking for. Front sway bar links and suspension parts. I replied not even what I ask for and no more response. Wish I had warned others.

PLEASE inquire and report any suspicious PM's suggesting they have a friend that has parts. Lets expose as many of these scammers as possible. As I'm typing this (2) bots tried to get in, and their IP's were banned.
With everyone's help we can continue to keep this site safe.
