Hi Ian
The car has SA made CAV 17inch rims (modified for width) and I run Hoosier R7s - 315/35 at the back and 275/40 in the front. 17 inch rims are very restrictive on a race car due to low availability of options so I am considering changing rims to a more common size so that I can run different tire options but I will have to custom make the rims.
I will take some photos next time I'm down at the track.

These newer generation of GT40's are really nicely built
I say "newer", when compared to my old KCC build from 30+ years ago. Which sadly feels more like a "kit car" vs a true replica.
I'm tempted to upgrade to a CAV myself (sadly I have not had the opportunity to check one out in person) But looking online the stainless steel monocoque chassis looks nice and way way safer than my KCC
Rick, how would you compare the "solidness" of your CAV to say a modern-ish factory built car?

Nothing about the car feels "Kit" like or wonky. Feels very sturdy and well constructed.Beautiful car

What started out as a rear main leak that’s turned into a complete rebuild of the car.
Shaver racing rebuilt the aluminum 427, now putting out 600hp on pump gas, Inglease injection, RBT refreshed the ZF, new steering rack with improved bump steer geometry, custom leather seats to maintain OE appearance. It’s all coming together now.
the goal of the rebuild was to make it a great driving comfortable car. I’m really happy with the quality of work J&L fabrication is putting into this build.

Nice work but I've never liked that rear suspension design. This photo is a good illustration of what I've posted before about it. If you hit something hard enough from behind or if it hits you, that longitudinal member becomes a spear going into your back. You're skewered.
Rick, I see you have the original CAV front uprights. I have to say, those are a real weak point of the front suspension. Personally, I would not go on a track for a track day with those front uprights.
Ian Clark makes some very nice front and rear suspension upgrades which include new fabricated front uprights. The kit is a few thousand dollars and takes some turnaround time to get in, but the parts are far superior to the original parts and will increase your safety factor dramatically at high speed/high load.

Hey Cliff,
I appreciate the note, I have seen the discussions on this site about the issues of the early CAV uprights. I am looking to replace them all as a Fall/Winter 2023 project. No track days will happen until then. I'm not sure which uprights to go with. I know Jordi at CAV has released a new kit that upgrades all uprights and control arms to handle high HP builds. I would be curious to know if anyone has ordered and received the uprights from Ian in recent years. I am aware of a debacle of sorts one member had getting his parts.
My GT-40 (recently sold) had the full suspension kit (uprights and A-arms) from Ian Clark in Canada. Those parts truly transformed the handling, adjustability, and safety of my car. Would strong suggest those parts be considered. I also think I maybe took some advantage of Ian by using him as a sounding board whenever I had a technical or maintence question. I understand some issues with slow delivery at times, but our cars are really speciality and low volume and all that entails. I think Ian’s involvement in CAV cars and upgrade parts is a massive benefit for CAV owners.
