LOLAT70.COM available

I bought this domain a long time ago, at one time I had a forum setup on it but nothing really came of that and during a server change, the forum data base got lost so I never setup anything on this domain again.

I am becoming more involved in business and have less time available for such things as building hobby web sites etc.

So I would like for this domain to go to some one who will do something nice with it such as setup a Lola T70 registry or at least another forum and maybe photo gallery etc.

I will offer this domain to the right person almost free, see trade offer below, but, be prepared to convince me and everyone else here you are the person who should own this domain name.

I would like assistance from the members here on deciding who this domain name should go to because you guys who own and love these cars should have at least as much a say in this as I do because this is about what "should" happen with this domain name, not it's monetary value or its sale, so I trust the judgement of the community here.

If you are just a domain speculator and think you will be able to talk me out of this so you can sell it at profit, bugger off. :shout:

I have bought and sold a few domains but I am a long way from being a domain speculator, I only buy a domain if it is about a subject I like and a subject I am interested in.

If you own a Lola T70 and want the domain and are going to do something cool with it, speak up and explain what you want to do. You will need to prove to me and people here you do in fact own a real Lola T70 and have a great idea for something cool to do with this domain or don't bother posting anything here about you wanting the domain.

This is not a for sale thread, I am not offering this domain for sale, I am looking for a good home for it, the right person to adopt it and do something cool with it.

Who it goes to will be totally up to me and the great people here on this forum who, I'm sure, will have plenty of opinions about who and/or what should or could be done with this domain. Feel free to post here about what kind of website you think would be great to build using this domain name.

I would like to receive a nice Lola T70 1:18th scale model [coupe version] in trade for it, hopefully this does not just mean this is looked at as a sales thread as, like I said, It will not go to just any one.

If some one who would like to have this domain does not think enough of owning it to offer me a nice 1:18th scale model Lola T70 for it then I just don't think you are even close to being serous enough to own it.

Trade Mark issues, no one has ever came after me about this and I have no idea if there would be any trade mark issues associated with this domain.

Hosting: I do own a small web hosting company and can host this for you on my servers for free but you will need to manage and run it, what ever type of website turns out to be, and you will need to be serious enough to take that on as stated above. The eyes of the Lola T70 community will be upon you. The free offer is not permanent and does not constitute an offer of unlimited server space. I can help and advise you on that kind of thing though, if a move is needed and you need advice.

Bob
wannabe GT40 & Lola T70 owner

PS, I'll be attending the Laguna Seca historics race/event this year just in case the potential new owner of this domain would like to hand me that 1:18 scale Lola T70 in person, or maybe all us Gt40s.com members could meet up for a beer. :drunk:

I think that your offer is a very fair if not generous offer and the right person should get the domain.

However, the above is narrowing down the potential number of interested parties.

"narrowing down the potential number of interested parties."

Exactly as it should be, don't you think?

You should be qualified to own this domain name, so what do you all think would make some one qualified?

That is the purpose of this thread, to help determine who would actually be qualified, so, have an opinion? speak up, as that is what this thread is here for.

If you know of some one who owns one of these cars and/or has vast knowledge of these cars and/or works on or restores Lola T70 cars and you think they would qualify as a good person to pass this domain on to, nominate them here and contact them if you know them and tell them it is available.

Word needs to get out this domain is available or no one will ever step forward and offer to take it on.

when you say "own a real t70" do you mean a genuine lola produced car of the 60's?

If not, my vote goes to Marcus!
The intent is to have this domain go to some one willing to put in the time and effort to build it into something great.

I would also like for this person to have standing in the industry and community and that preferably means an owner of an original Lola T70 as, after all, that is what the domain name says.

That does not totally preclude an owner of a reproduction but he/she would have to be dedicated and willing to step up and see to it something great is done with this domain as, it is worthy of the time and effort.

You'd like a lot. In my experience I've found that the owners of original and extremely rare cars generally do not have the time, interest, or skills needed to start and maintain a website dedicated to the marque. I suppose you might get extremely lucky but I think you may need to set your sights far lower.

If I thought I could do the concept justice I'd take it on and use one of my non-used VB site licences to get a forum up and running, but I don't have the time. One site is enough job as it is.

Maybe it could be done Wikipedia style and people could log on & post facts or race data related to the Lola T70, then with admin approval these additions could be published. Then it could mostly be a user generated content kind of thing. I would not guess you would want to put up another forum, it would just compete with this one and reduce your page views etc.

I know exactly what you mean about successful people not having time, I'm only moderately successful and working my ass off trying to keep up with business and responsibilities. I own GT40.net and have not completed that site due to just not having enough time to do the research and try to get only factual content posted about each GT40 chassis. I still need to finish all the chassis listing pages.

After sitting on this domain [LolaT70.com] for years, I thought why not post something here where pretty much everyone who is concerned with these cars hangs out, maybe we can find a solution on getting this domain in use.

I was thinking, if the right person, an owner of an original car put up the site and ask for help posting everything related to the Lola T70, maybe people would step up and contribute and take it more seriously then if I did it as I don't have much credibility compared to an owner or some one who restores these cars.

If you owned it and put up a Wikipedia style site and asked people here to help you fill it out with every known fact and bit of data about these cars, at least you would have a better chance of being taken seriously due to this forum and your ability to request help with the site here. You could link that site with this Lola T70 sub section of the forum and then link back to that site as a FAQ and historical data collection about these cars.

There is Wikipedia style program that is open source [free], it is called MediaWiki and is the original program used to start/run Wikipedia

Here is a link: MediaWiki

If that concept interest you let me know.

If you are not interested in taking it on & owning the domain but would be willing to help by posting it here as kind of a forum sponsored project, I have no problem with retaining ownership of the domain and doing the work to get it up and running as a MediaWiki based site. I do that stuff [setup websites] every day any way.

MediaWiki is available for auto install on the cpanel hosting system so I could have that running in a few minutes. Configuring it would no doubt be some work though.

If the entire site is about the Lola T70 then you would need multiple sub pages about subjects or events [races] relating to the car, that might work as a good way to set it up if the MediaWiki system would allow.

If you have any thoughts on any of this let me know.

Thanks, Robert

Just went and installed MediaWiki on Lola T70 Archives just so I could check it out and see if it might actually be a viable option to run a website about the Lola T70.

If any one has any thoughts on how this should be setup post and let me know.

My idea is to have the sub pages named for each chassis as that would pretty much cover everything.

Every race, every event, every detail could be listed under a chassis number if it related to an original car.

I will also ad a section for reproduction cars by maker. Beyond that I'm open for suggestions on how to categorize the site to cover every subject.

There will be present day races and events to cover along with general photos and general information.

I want to include everything related to the Lola T70 but also figure a way to include the wonderful reproduction cars available as that is the only way most of us will ever have the chance to experience one of these cars.

This does not mean I have given up on finding some one to adopt this domain.

Maybe having a site under development would prompt some one to have more interest as having something to see at the web site address will be better then nothing at all coming up if some one types that domain name in and looks for it.

Looks like I need to start digging up the chassis number data and related facts for the Lola T70. If anyone would like to help and contribute info, please do. ;)

Not sure about the site having members as in, people being able to sign on and contribute by posting directly, I'll need to look into that right away.

Well, it seems using the MediaWiki program to run the LolaT70.com site is proving rather difficult. It is vary hard to configure. I am trying to decide if I should try something else but all the WIKI style programs available seem to be made by aliens with a far different idea of how something should work then what I would prefer.

Even if I can get this MediaWiki thing to work like it does on Wikipedia, it seems any regular person who would try to log on and contribute something would have to figure out a lot of stuff normal people don't know such as html tags and formatting in order to do so.

It is not a WYSIWYG interface like posting in this forum, that is what I was hoping for so any one could easily use it.

MediaWiki  FAIL because it is HARD to use!

As Ron says there are very few people who own real T70"s, and it seems you might be trying to duplicate some of what is covered by Lola Heritage, and even that site is very quiet.

Lola Heritage • View forum - Lola Heritage Forum

Cheers

Looking at the Lola heritage site, they have the chassis listed for the coupes and roadsters but with a page built with information and records for only a few of these. The rest are just listings on the main chassis registry.

I will build a page for each chassis with all info I can find concerning each chassis.

"duplicate some of what is covered by Lola Heritage" Yes, but that is the nature of the site.

I have given up on the wiki type systems and built a standard site at LolaT70.com, I'll soon be adding a single page per chassis so I can start adding the data.

Any one who would like to contribute anything please do so, I'm starting from scratch.

LOLAT70.COM available:

Yes, I would like to find some one to take this over but the reality is, I think people see it for what it is, lots of work. So, yes it is still available if some one [the right peron] steps forward.

Thanks, Robert

I would like to have it. I am not sure what I would do with it but a site devoted to the Type 70 would be beneficial to those interested.
