Preferred engine oil?

The topic must have been covered, but apologies, I couldn't find it.

Any suggestions for a mildly tuned 302 with hydraulic tappets and a high pressure oil pump (75psi)? The issue for me is whether there are oils which can stay in the sump for extended periods. The car doesn't do big mileages, or track use, so an oil change on age alone would arrive long before distance demanded a change.

thanks
Peter

Thanks Frank - I recall that you had mentioned some oil from this source, but I completely lost my record of our conversation!

Thanks for the input here. Interesting to read of the Lucas oil as an alternative to the VR1, which co-incidentally has just been recommended to me by a major V8 supplier.

Now a stupid question. Despite wasting far too much time on the 'net, I cannot find what the sump capacity on my 302 engine (ex-Torino) is. Yes, its a recently acquired car, and time for its first oil change.

Thanks,
Peter

Flat tappet cams aside, I bet you are better off buying cheap oil and changing it frequently than expensive oil and not changing it as often.
