Rear Clam Shell slam catches

Some photos and details of the rear slam catches.
Huge thanks to James for helping me locate the details.
I certainly appreciate all the help he has given the community.

I can see the side of the latch here with the nut coming through to secure the rod.

The MK 1 (62-66) and MK 2 (66-70) Cortina appear to use a very similar slam catch. The Capri and first few years of the Escort also had a similar latch with 3 bolts, but the release lever or cable in the case of the Capri is different.

Hope this helps someone else.

Chassis P1065 appears to be using something slightly different.

Also does not have the hole in the roof so these would need to be released from inside.

Concept Carz seems to have a number of galleries that I had not seen before.
May help others that are looking for images of a particular original car.
Looks like I have some more research to do for my build.

P1065 has a lot of the road car features.

No roof hole for the latch release.
Battery in port side rear side sill.
Road car radiator header tank.
Standard rocker covers without the complicated breather systems.
Exhaust heat shield and muffler as opposed to megaphones.

I have no idea what slam catches they may be.

Was going to use these, but went a different direction with Falcon XY 1/4 turn pins.
Looks to be same as P1065.

Clayton, what are those from?
If I read and understand your response correctly, these are not Falcon XY 1/4 turn pins?

Id imagine so, "Grand Tourer" are generally regarded as the go to place for the XY GT's. They have been involved in some nice restorations.

The XY is an Australian based Ford Falcon, so its parts are familiar to both Clayton and I.
Grand Tourer are only about 40 minutes away from me, across the other side of Melbourne, and in the same suburb where the original Ford Australia plant was.

Going through more drawings today, and noticed that these are also shown on page 129 of GT40 Uncovered.
FoMoCo part number 113E 16642A
Modified to work for the GT40.

Drawing number GT40P/1/2615 for the road car

GT40P/1/2560 for the race cars.

I was thinking cable operated slam catches, then I thought, ‘what if there’s an engine fire? Can I trust a cable system?’

I’m leaning towards the XY GT style bonnet pins. They seem to be about as easy to release as hood pins and have a clean look. While I like a period correct look, I am not constrained by it.

Unfortunately, their website doesn’t appear to support shipping outside of Australia.

Does anyone know of a similar item that’s available in the U.S.?

1971-1973 Mustang twist hood pins and earlier Torinos. Seen some on Summit Racing.

The 71-73 version of the Capri catch appears to be the same basic design but uses a cable instead of the lever.
The cable pulls from the opposite direction and side, so you may need to spin them around 180° in the mountings and have a different hole arrangement.
