Rocker ball hard to find?

Could you help me to find for 289 SBF grooved rocker ball ( stock rocker )for historic racing, must have 7/16 // 0.885 OD dimensions ,sb chevy are too small,BB too large,
Thank you!!

You sure its for 7/16 stud? all Hi-Po 289 were 3/8", have some 289 by 3/8" grooved lying around here somewhere, not sure of condition though.

I wonder if the rocker ball from the early 'base' 429 has been used in your application, as these were 7/16 stud with a 'rail' type rocker arm rather than the later pressed steel sled pedastal type. This may have been done to enable the use of the stiffer/stronger 7/16 studs in this application. Sorry, I dont have any of these here in order to cross check with original 3/8" type for compatibility with 289 rocker arm.

Yes, 7/16,thank you for your reply

In normal OEM production the ball diameters increased along with the stud diameter. IE BB Chevrolet, or Pontiac.

I just checked some that I have in my shop. The ones from the 1969 429 Ford heads that I have are .437 Id. and .883 Od.. If I remember correctly, these were TRW engine parts. If you look for some for the 429 of that era, they should work. They are for the style of rocker arm that requires push rod guide plates, not the self aligning style with the groove for the valve stem to ride in.

Regards Brian

1969 Ford 429 Engine code "N"

Disclaimer: Refrencing Brians post above this is for 7/16 stud, veify that the OD is the same as that for 289. This is the only rocker ball used for 429 application.

You might also check with Cobra Automotive they have lots performance stuff for the SBF for vintage racing, not sure if they have the 7/16" stud stuff, but worth a shot.
