I take It that RCR is unable to supply a replacement? That seems crazy as I would think Fran has a supplier and is still building superlites. I have gotten mk-1 glass from him in the past, the shipping is what hurts...............m

Grant - good find. Thank you for that info. The item description did not state it, but I think that is a lexan windshield. I will give them a call to inquire.

Mahlon - I did hear from RCR today stating that it was being made and would ship in about a month.

GIII. Any word if the glass windshield pattern was adjusted to improve the figment to the body. There is a lot of discussion on making it fit the body as intended. Hope it’s a better pattern now.

Wonder if that other windshield is poly or Lexan, DOT approved?

Hey Dan. That is a great question, but one that i am unsure of. This is the initial windshield that is being supplied with my kit, so I dont have a previous to compare it to. I hope it's an easy fit because I am ready to get my car on the road.

If you've got your body all fitted without the windshield, you may have some issues. You may want to read AJ's and CamT's build threads in regards to getting the windshield to fit.

I have lexan in mine, I have been told it is coated but the car is not on the road yet. I will install a wiper assembly for registration purposes and I will have to operate it for the inspector. I am concerned about it scratching the crap out of the lexan. Is anyone running the lexan on the street? or is this why all the talk about glass................m

Not sure about the laws where you live but in Canada, lexan is not permitted for the windshield or side windows, The windshield must be safety glass and have a DOT stamp that has a specific number designation. After it has passed inspection you can swap it out but it won't be legal. The side windows you can just leave out as it doesn't state you have to have side windows then later put them back in.

My SLC is being built by Allan. It should be completed in the next few weeks. Interior is going in now. So, once the window arrives, we will be ready to ship.

Using a Lexan window could be a insurance concern as well on the street. They are just itching to get out of a claim if possible. Read your fine print. Using any non standard "not legal for street use" parts may void your coverage.

That is true. I have to use a glass windshield to pass inspection in Houston.

Front windshield can only be laminated safety glass. It's a Federal law whether your local State inspector catches/enforces it or not.

Can you provide a link Michael? This would be difficult to believe.

If you google DOT lexan windshield apparently there is such a product by EMP

However, whether this is legit or Billy-Bob just stamped it in his garage I dunno, although I think you're right that all laws specifiy windshield must be glass.

It all depends on what state you're in. When Ohio inspected my car, they could care less what the windshield was made of, as long as I could prove it wasn't stolen.

Pete same thing for us here in co. We have taken many cars through the process and not once have I seen them check glass, although maybe they are supposed to...................m

At PRI the company that makes the superlite lexan was demoing their scratch resistant coating. They had a half coated windshield and ran a wiper on it for days on end with the WIPER WRAPED WITH STEEL WOOL. The coated side looked good. The uncoated side was white.
