I'm installing a magnetic speedometer sensor off of a toothed wheel attached to the CV joint. This is a very convenient location versus placing it on an upright. The sensor appears to have a permanent magnet in the central core.
My question to the group is; does the higher heat level inside our mid-engine configurations prevent the use of a magnetic pickup back there? The reason I ask is that in past experience with magnets, I've found that heat is the enemy of magnets, and I don't want to ruin the sensor, which is located on the transaxle. I'll mount it down low, almost level with the bottom of the frame, to get as much cool air as possible (headers are mounted high), but wonder if that is enough.
