Superformance Roadster

Any news on a completed one ? I heard Fran Kress had ordered one up but have not heard any news of it. I'm curious that if they are available, how much more over the cost of a mk1.

Fran's roadster was built from a coupe tub here in the states. The factory does not do a roadster and has no plans to do so. He used an original FAV type roadster windscreen as opposed to other "roadster" conversions that are merely center roof chop jobs so a new windscreen surround and heavily modded "A" pillars were required.

I will post some pictures later.

Sweet. Any more pics. Front shot?

How is the windscreen attached? Is the frame welded to the tub?

Yes,
It is a fabricated frame that is welded to the tub. It is a rather involved build, not just "cut the roof off" but makes for a really nice roadster setup.

Obviously the door and rear clam are not duplicates of the FAV setup....that is the next project!

I wonder what inspired him to sell his ERA spyder (a Pantera buddy of mine in Holland now owns it), then turn around and get this car?

Well you obviously don't know Fran! He in fact has ANOTHER ERA roadster, a red FE/Weber'ed MK II that is also for sale currently and will be up on my website shortly.

This is a guy who now winters in Naples, FL and volunteers at the Collier Museum. Recently someone was looking through a book there and saw a photo of a GT MK IV and commented on it. Fran casually remarked "yeah, I have TWO of those" and got the "yeah, right!" stinkeye look from the person.

Here is the ERA MK II prior to the new red livery a couple years ago when he gave it to me to use to cruise around Pittsburgh when I was there on business and staying at the Kress Hilton Resort (you would have to see to understand why those who stay refer to it that way)
