The Need for Speed

I got really excited close to 200 and I was in the passenger seat. Don't think I want to be part of the 200 club much less the 300 club! Tires must be impossible to find for that speed.

Veyron Supersport - 268mph
Tyres cost £23500 per set and last just 37 miles at that speed.
Thats £635 per mile - over £0.40p per METRE just in tyres.

Servicing costs £43k !

Wouldn't want to imagine what might happen if your tyres did wear out/blowout at that speed... :stunned:

It's not that tough to make tires that will hold together at these crazy (300mph) speeds. After all, plenty of tires have been made to vastly exceed these speeds for land speed record cars, for example.

What's tough is to make a tire that has acceptable ride characteristics going 30mph down a bumpy country lane......and can do 300mph safely when the (slightly insane) owner/driver decides to step on it....
