valkyrie

Does anyone know about valkyrie GT 40 lookalike? It is Valkyrie factory built in USA (US friends plse help me out), but quite far from a closer thing, like KVA, GTD, Tornado etc. It seems it has been a lot in hillclimbing in US, and is based on steel frame (not tubular). It has chevy mecanics, ford 302 engine and chevy corsair tranaxle. How much would you pay for a rough one?

Pete - that looks like an old T-3 replica.
Tube chassis and OK mechanicals, but the
body is atrocious.

Jukka - The Valkyrie has been discussed
many times on this board. It was originally
VW based, but I believe later versions
improved the frame, allowed for V8 power
(Chevy or Ford), and used the Corvair
transaxle. They look less like a 40
than the T-3 does.

Here's a link to one of th threads:

I would avoid it at all costs if you want a
high quality replica. The Valkyries were
built when the kit car industry was very
young. And, I would never race one.

Thanks Ian for advice. Indeed I can Not see This evolution being able to take full V8 power. However, the 302 engine is several inches moved to the front...So, it is practically in the middle. V8 distributor is located inboards. And they claim incredible hillcliming times for this.. Front contains A -arms just like any other prod.car in 60´s and spring susp. rear. What would you pay??

Sorry, but I wouldn't take it for free.
Well, maybe I would, just to pull the
engine.

The Valkyries I've seen on eBay have never
sold as far as I know. Highest bids I've
seen hit $500US. The sellers have wanted
3 to 5 times that.

Honestly, I would look elsewhere if you want
a GT40. I can appreciate the history of the
Valkyrie and Avenger, but I'd never recommend
them to anyone.

The Valkyrie was the tube-chassis, V8 version of the Avenger. The Avenger was based on a VW chassis, with VW mechanicals.

The Valkyrie is worth considerably more than $500; that's the going price for a rough Avenger.

A good place to find out some more info on the Avenger or the Valkyrie is:

Or you can email me.

I humbly stand corrected - thanks Meat.

I was thinking about the Avenger.
The Valkyrie is much rarer, and obviously
much more refined. Looking at the site
Meat posted, I see that people have put a
lot of money into the Valkyries (adding
a correct ZF!) to make them perform. So,
yes, $500 is a low ball figure. I'd still
hesitate to hit the $10K US mark though.
And, I fell the look is still too far off.
Unless a lot of work has been done to update
and improve the car already, you could spend
quite a bit to get the Valkyrie up to a
competitive level. For all that cash,
you'd still be better off buying a used GTD
IMHO.

But, if it's aready well set up, and you don't
mind the looks, and the price is reasonable,
it could definitely be a fun car to own.
