Weber Carbs and Air Injection Pumps

Without being too “cloak and dagger” about why I’m asking, I’d like to put together a dossier on two subjects, and would appreciate any information (direct links, copies, faxes or simply references…but no “my brother remembers back in the day…”responses) concerning the two questions posed below. Feel free to post your info here, email or PM me.

Question #1.

Did FORD (or any subsidiary) sell any products for use on public roads between the years 1963 and 1966 that came equipped with Weber Carbs. This can include Cobras, GT40s or any regular or potential passenger car. Can you demonstrate that any of these were registered in California during that period?

Question #2.

Did FORD (or any subsidiary) sell any products for use on public roads during the year 1966 that came NOT equipped with an AIR INJECTION PUMP (smog pump). This can include Cobras, GT40s or any regular or potential passenger car. Can you demonstrate that any of these were registered in California during that period?

I would appreciate any assistance anyone can give, but I don't want to go into exactly why I'm asking, and would request that posters refrain from speculating my intentions. I don't think it would be helpful.

Dave,

Were these sold in the US back in the 1960s?

For it to be useful for my purposes, it would have had to have been on sale in the US. If they were available, it would be helpful to know.

Ron,
If you read the article carefully it references that car as being sold new in California in 1966. If you need additional reference material trying googling Lotus Cortinas and Ford Cortinas. Also try 'Bob Challman' who I believe was a Lotus dealer in L.A. in that era. Also the Golden Gate Lotus Club may have Cortina owners with more California info. If I think of any other 1966 Weber Fords I'll let you know.

Dave,

I did see the reference...and some background investigating suggests that the Mark 1 was sold in the US (1963-1966), even in California. So, that's a start. I'll just have to document what was actually in the motor compartment, but it does help.

Dont forget the twin cam escort, plus the weber IDA for the Shelby Mustangs etc as an option ( although that may have come with a tag of not for highway use ), just cant remember when the first motors appeared with air pumps etc, around 1968/69 as the Boss 302 heads were cast/drilled for injection into exh ports.

Jac,

I'm aware of all of the above, but I need actual documentation.

In general, smog pumps were nationally mandated in the US in 1968, but California (being progressive) required them starting in 1966. The question is, were ALL cars sold in California actually mandated in 1966 (I think not), but I need reliable documentation to the contrary.

To clarify, I'm interested in what year your MSO says it replicates, not the year of manufacture (which will be a more modern date).
Also, to be useful, the carb and air pump data I'm interested in is specific to FORD small block v8s.
