Clockwork spring system. Used in most all airbag steering wheels. Or NASCAR style, big honkin' telephone type cord (note to all under 30: Phones were NOT always cordless/cellular, they used to have actual WIRES to the headset! These were called "Cords" and generally got tangled up in whatever you didn't want them tangled in)

The clockwork spring system used from the factory is removed when installed in the SLC (when using the removable steering wheel). Most builders just use a push buttom switch on the dash.
