Re: Chassis #64 due in July

Today was a good day as I finally got to drive the GT40 around the back yard. Got her into all gears except 5th and all seems to be working well.
Did about 8 laps around the back. . Need to check
everything over and when I get my seats back I'll head out onto the highway.

Congratulations

The first time mine moved under it's own steam was a brilliant moment - I just could not get reverse and had to push it backwards!

Re: Chassis #64 due in July

Thanks Guys

Ian- I had the same problem, got engine started pushed in clutch and got
all forward gears then went to back out of shed and nothing but grinding
when I selected reverse. I didn't have enough travel in stick to get reverse properly. A few adjustments and all is well.

Jack- Yeah I'm all warm over my DRB again. I suppose building Kitcars is a
Rolla coaster ride. All I can say is if you choose a DRB when you come to build a GT40 you will know that they are a car that you can finish in a reasonable amount of time, I've enjoyed the build and even though I have fabbed most of my brackets and suspension at home there have been times when I've just picked up the phone and ordered a bundle of stuff from DRB.

Ricky- No Majors, still have a few bits and pieces to do. Had no reverse for a while but sorted that. Can't wait to get her licensed and then build the real the GT40. Hope my Audi box likes turbo chargers is all I can say.

Re: Chassis #64 due in July

Dave,
May as well say bye bye gear box now. What sort of torque do you think you will end up with?

May be worth giving Cosi a call and see what advice he can provide. He has already been down the turbo route as you know.

Re: Chassis #64 due in July

Ricky
I'm going to look at gearbox options after Rego. But I suspect you are right when you say bye bye.

Got my VIN number issued today which was great ,I expected the WA licensing to take weeks.

Hopefully my slack ass Engineer will get his butt into gear and finish the report aswell

I wonder if I visit my seat trimmer every day if he will get my seats done
any quicker???

Re: Chassis #64 due in July

Well done Dave!

BTW, who is your engineer, and what sort of ballpark were his fees?

PS Ricky - thanks for the details for the race meeting. I'll try and head up there. I'll certainly be there for the V8 Supercars. Can't wait.

Re: Chassis #64 due in July

Dave,
Are you going to bring it up to Perth for licensing or try and get it done locally in Albany?

Aslo just curious on the status of Julians car?

Re: Chassis #64 due in July

Richard thanks for the kind words, The Engineer I use is a real pain in the
Butt(Sorry if you're reading this). Phil Moores Engineer was cheap and easy to deal with, do you have his contact details?
Oh I am going to the V8's aswell maybe we should all meet up??

Ricky- I'm going to bring it to Perth as it is much easier.
I licensed my Locost up in Perth and had no trouble.

I've decided to keep Julians car as a parts bunky, you know park it at the back of the shed ,let it get rusty and rip bits of it for my sons Gokart.
Nah (settle down Jules)his car is not far behind mine. All major mechanicals done, brakes, steering, fuel tanks and he is just about to start
wiring, ashame he's colour blind. might have to get some insurance in the
workshop.

Re: Chassis #64 due in July

I don't know Phil Moores. I'm thinking of going to Dan Pitic as he has a very good rep, is happy to work with the suspension guru who did our initial drawings, and I'll be looking for low volume compliance rather than a single so I want to use someone who knows the bureaucracy as well as the ADRs.

It would be great to catch up at the V8s. We'll probably grab tickets in the grandstand just above the pits. It was fantastic there last year. Where are you going to be? I can PM you our seat numbers and we can trade moblie numbers and stuff like that once we're booked.

BTW, sorry I didn't reply to your reply about Albany, beer, DRBs and Lolas on the RCR forum - I can't get email subscription notification working (too much anti-everything ware, I guess) and I keep forgetting what threads I've posted to!

Still, as this is your build thread it's probably not too much of a hijack to ask how your Lola plans are coming along - still in dream phase or getting closer to reality pending completion of your DRB?

Re: Chassis #64 due in July

Richard is the suspension Guru you're talking about Jamie Gaurd??

Bill D- Thanks for the kind words, As you probably know already building a car to get licensed for the road in West Australia is hard work when it comes to Design rules. I look forward to getting the car licensed, bringing it home, stripping it down to bare chassis and building the real car.

Here's a pic of my door trim I'm not sure which type of inner door (grab)handle to fit?? Any ideas anyone??

Exactimundo, Dave - Jamie did all of our mapping in Susprog 3D and drew it all up nicely. I can't wait to feel the grip, but I've got years further to go than you for that!

Re: Chassis #64 due in July

Dave
Great work. Just looking at your door trim panel. Do you intend to put a pocket in the door as it makes great storage space. I am not sure if you are building a pure race car and it may not be required. Just a thought. I can send a picture of my door interior if you like.

Regards Martin.

Re: Chassis #64 due in July

Thanks Martin
Post a pic on this build thread if you like. I'm not using the doors for storage so it will remain flat alloy. I want the race car look inside.

Richard- Can you send me some pics of your car or what you've built so far? Jamie has a very good reputation in WA. He is also listed on the DPI
as an engineer who can sign off your car.

Re: Chassis #64 due in July

Jamie is listed, but he is semi-retired. He sold the Replica Motor Company a couple of years ago, and he and Dan are happy to work together on projects he wants to be involved in. Still, with the length of time this is taking me, he'll probably be fully retired first.

Unfortunately I don't have photos at the moment. The chassis and moulds have been in storage for a couple of months while I've been concentrating on renovating the house and I only bought a digital camera recently. I will take some when I move the chassis back home, which may still be a couple of months. Very happy to chat about it in detail if we catch up at the V8s, though.

Re: Chassis #64 due in July

Fitting most of the body bits and pieces. Ended up fitting body pins on the
front and rear clips. Engineering testing this coming weekend so hopefully all tests are passed. Latest colour scheme I want is Black with wide
white stripes. If only I could choose a colour for a car and stick to it.

Drilling and sanding the rear clear engine cover was not fun, we used a glass drill to drill the holes and seemed to more melt a hole in it than drill
through it.
