Rep Power: 18 | Re: Sandy's RCR40 Gulf Chassis #11 Gary -
6,000 Rpm, please, no risk of pumping a rod out the side of the block.
I have a bit of work to do before I can fire the motor. I have to start the wiring and plumbing and pull the trans to do the clutch before I can do the 'Bleach Burnout' and put that to urge to rest.
I had the car since 3/20 and have been in the garage 3 time, once to push it in and the other 2 to look and make motor sounds with my mouth, but no amount of time doing actual work. After some sleep this weekend I'm hopeful to actually doing something.
I did order a flame arrestor for the carb, talked to Classic instruments for a new 10k rpm tach with appropriate redline, oil temp gauge, and have a boat load of wire stuff from waytek wire showing up very soon. I think the dash will be the first thing to be done then I can sit and make motor sounds _and_ push buttons...
I still owe more pic's, likely this weekend.
Sandy

I had Classic Instruments modify my tach with a redline like many of the originals. They're are great people to work with. Excellent customer service.
Cheers

| Re: Sandy's RCR40 Gulf Chassis #11 Thats why I use them, Bill....
We now have a specific RCR series gauge for all cars.
I think Chuck posted a pic last week in the Gallery.. http://www.gt40s.com/gallery/index.php?n=445

Rep Power: 18 | Re: Sandy's RCR40 Gulf Chassis #11 I finally did look at them (Gauges) and are very nice. I talked to them yesterday and they are going to get back with what they can do (classic instruments), said likely not a big deal. The new gauges have a nice look and the new fonts and fuel gauges are a nice touch. Not sure what the clock is for, It's not digital and I don't know what them two pointers are, way too confusing
I think they will do any redline you want as a custom. Didn't seem to be a problem as Bill and Fran said, they seem to be a company that caters to your needs.
<Begin Sarcastic Font> Fran, FYI the 6500 is a little weak for the boys out here, but you know that already <End sarcastic Font>

Again, your car looks fantastic! As for the 6500RPM redline.... I thought that was to let you know where YOUR dyno run STARTED (if my feable brain remembers correctly).... |

| Re: Sandy's RCR40 Gulf Chassis #11 Sandy,
I suggested 6,000 RPM because I knew it would be a fresh engine, and twisting it past that is not good until you have some time on it.
I have a 289 in my GT350. It has a mechanical driven cable tack, with a tattle tail. The guy I bought it from worked in the machine shop where I got my Cobra engine done. Well know history with the shop and the machinist. Paul set the car up to do drag racing, with 4.86 gears. I thought that would be the first thing I would change, but I just left them in there. I have seen 8600 RPM in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gears. Comes out of the hole like it is shot out of a cannon. Great fun. I have 3.92s with a 27" tall tire on the Cobra, and have taken it up to 7500 RPM in 4th gear = 155 MPH.
I am, as everyone here, interested in your build progress, and the stats to the engine/trans/final gear ratio, ect. I wish I was in your shoes, and looking forward to having you post more information as you go forward.
One last thing.......Dang, that is one great looking car!!!!!!!!!!

For the tach if anyone is interested in the 10k tach with 8000-8500 red marking give Fran a holler as the fine folks at Classic are going to make me one and it would be quick for them to make a second at the same time. These are Fran's design's and should go with him to get the gauge.

| Re: Sandy's RCR40 Gulf Chassis #11 Correct Sandy,
anything RCR has to be purchased through us....not Classic.
PLEASE NOTE...
We are not making custom gauges for each and every person...our standard set is whats included with the car....any changes are additional and not replacement.

Sandy | Put that urge to rest??? You're joking of course Sandy!
Don't do it! It's like a drug. Once you start, you'll get hooked . You'll never be able to stop!
BTW awesome car. I'm looking forward to when you get it on the track.
Best wishes. |
