Fuel Pump

Anyone out there using carbs and a cam driven mechanical pump? Seems like to me this is a another good place to "keep it simple stupid". There are plently of blueprinted mechanical pumps that can take race duty thus dispensing with electrical pumps, wiring, cutoff switches, and the occasional electric pump failure (I know mechs fail too, but I never had one go bad). Any comments?

Re: Fuel Pump

This may seem dumb...but I'm running electric because
the pumps look and sound "racier" than the mechanical.

For safety I like to shut off pumps and run gas out of carbs after use. This is esp. a good idea if your using webbers.

Re: Fuel Pump

Looks like that might be impractical for something driven often. What I mean is, if you run the bowls and lines out then they'll have to be refilled again everytime you startup.

If you use your car every day it's one thing. If you use it once a week its another. Also it's good to crank for a bit to get oil flowing before you start up. With electric pumps and ign. kill you can do that before you switch on and fire.
It also helps when hot starting esp in the summer.
