Oil cooler and filter

Getting very excited as after two years off the road my GT40 is nearing completion... But I have a problem. How do you tell the direction of the oil flow through a seperate oil cooler and filter???

My car runs a 350 small block Chevy (Ron Earp calls them boat anchors....) with a seperate filter and cooler. My mechanic friend John and I took the pipes from the engine off two years ago and can't remember which way they should go back on now... Does it matter though? really need some help here...

Standard canister filters are all the same with flow - the flow goes INTO the radial holes on the filter and comes OUT the center hole. So, on your remote mount the tube portion that goes to the outer edge of the filter will be coming FROM the motor. And as such, it should be coming from the outer edge on the block adapter too.

The tube that is close to the center of the filter on your remote adapter is going TO the engine. It is filtered oil and will be going into the nipple on the block.

The oil cooler, for the most part, is non-directional. A quick search turned up this diagram, I'm sure there are more. Notice the arrows on the filters, that is all I put it here for, ignore all the other mess.

Make sure you get it right, even a boat anchor needs clean oil.

Ron

Make sure you place the oil cooler downstream from the filter. You want clean oil to leave the filter be cooled by the cooler and return to the motor.
