Which Starter?

I need to replace my Ford Racing mini starter. Should I risk going with another one which is in stock at Summit and Jegs. CSR and Powermaster aren't stocked and have ship dates 3-4 weeks.

Setup:
ZF transaxle
157 tooth flywheel
302W

I just got one off of a v6 car in the bone yard and it worked perfectly..

What happens when you bench test it (clamped in a vice) ???

It spins and makes grinding noises. But the pinion gear doesn't move forward

Where did it come from? If it is from Jegs or Summit they will likely exchange it.

I bought it from Jeg's 2 years ago. However, I just used it for the first time in June.

Jegs has a 2 year return policy with something like a 20% restock. I don't know if they will do anything for you but it might be worth a call.
