If I were bidding on something that's well over $30K with 7 days to go, I'd sure like to see some evidence of the seller's "place in line" for the GT production. No refund if proof of financing not displayed within 30 days...

To my understanding NO Ford dealer will get more than one the first year. The speculators and weasels are trying hard to hook the suckers on this one. Best one was the eBay auction for the car in Canada, fish paid for a delivery spot for a car from a dealer that may not even get a car!

Yes, the "seller" will not have a VIN yet, but a signed document from the dealer would go a long way towards making it legit.

BTW, the official "JOB 1" date at Wixom Assembly where the cars will be built, is April 29. And has anyone else noticed that Saleen who were to be responsible for the "assembly" are now nowhere to be seen or involved in the GT? I never understood what they allegedly brought to this project: they have no experiance in assembly of this type of car, they have only built a few S7s for the street, the race cars are built at Ray Mallocks in the UK.

I would rather spend the money on something special!!

Common sense tells me that investing big money in a car that Ford might continue to make to compete with Ferarri in future years would be crazy.

Just a comment - take it for what it's worth -

Remember when the Miatas first came out? They
got marked up so high because Mazda said
"limited run". How many people got suckered
in? How much does a 1st year Miata sell for now?
Less than original sticker, and way less than
the marked up cost.

I'm not saying Ford will ever move the GT into
mass production like the Miata (though it's odd
that Ford has a huge interest in Mazda ...), but
paying $35K US for the right to buy a $140K US car
that the dealer may or may not get ... not good.
And, his response "As I told someone previously,
if you don't think it is legit then don't bid."
is dicey at best. If he wants to remain legit, he
needs to provide proof. Unfortunately, there are
suckers born every minute ...

I stopped into my local Ford dealer and asked about the new GT. A couple of the salesman said they had not heard anything so far from Ford about their allocation of any cars yet. They figured they would probably get only one.
They told me that 8 customers had already been in and all said they wanted to buy it. I asked who would be the one lucky customer and they said they would probably just draw
a name out of a hat. Now that is a Minnesota nice. As naive as I might be but I just don't see a reputable dealer here price gauging their customers for whatever they can get out of them. Maybe an auction? Most likely the owner of the dealership will buy it and that will be that.

I fell for the same "limited" production run that the 2003 Mach 1 was suppose to be. The rumors from the company were saying how only 6500 were going to be made and for one year only since the 2005 Mustang was coming out.

Well, at least I only paid MSRP unlike some who paid up to $5000 over MSRP.

6 months later...Ford was giving the rebates and selling them for $5000 under MSRP and had produced over 10000 models for 2003 alone! Not only that but they are making 2004 models too.

I learned my lesson on new cars...at least mine wasn't as expensive of a lesson as some.

Surprise, surprise, it looks like the seller has done the decent thing and closed the auction off early, cancelling all bids. The following was added to the ebay description:

<< UPDATE - Unfortunately we have not yet received any paperwork from the Ford dealer we are working with regarding this car. We have only the dealership's word that we will be able to get the car at this time. I know this will probably keep many from bidding on this car, but when we last spoke to the dealer we were confirmed to get one. We are hesitant to sell a spot in line without confirming paperwork because we have an unblemished record. If the dealer cannot produce the paperwork by the last day of the auction we will cancel the auction and re-list once we receive the paperwork from the dealer as we are not about to sell a spot in line for this kind of money based solely on the word of the dealer without supporting paperwork. We regret that this is currently the case, but thought it only fair to provide an immediate update based on the information at hand. We will update this description again if the paperwork comes through before auction close.

If we are forced to cancel this auction due to lack of paperwork at this time, please look for another auction in the future at which time you can be assured that we have the paperwork in hand. Our apologies if we jumped the gun here, but we have assurances from the dealer that it is coming, it just hasn't arrived as of yet.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. >>

Similar BS scenarios happen with Chevy dealers all the time when they are trying to sell new Corvettes.

Only a fool would pay a deposit up front to get in line. Many of the Chevy dealers won't receive the allotment they hope for. Some get so little, they have no problem selling at MSRP for their area. However, many 'big' Chevy delears get hundreds of new Corvettes per year and will sell them thousands below MSRP.

that is the question, how do we sell these cars. And being a 21 year veteran of Minneapolis, I would agree with you on the drawing of the name. We have been given our allotment. We are getting ready to hold meetings to figure out what to do. One of our two (yes 2) is going to the owner of the dealership.
Our reputation started in 1916, so we are worried about that as well.
