Re: F1 is boring me to death!!!!

It is just the same for motorcycle Enduros. They have a maximum average speed of 27mph !
This is partly because they are run under a non-speed permit (issued by the ACU in the UK). This means if the course has a lot of high speed forestry fire breaks or service roads for example, it then has to have a lot of tight slow stuff to compensate. The only saving grace is that the machines performance is not restricted (so far...).

Funnily enough (or not) the places where most accidents occur are on the slow tight stuff as riders get tired but still try not to lose time.

I think things like the Paris-Daker, and roof of whats-its-name are the only non-speed limited timed events now.

Re: F1 is boring me to death!!!!

New FIA F1 rules from 2008.
If F1 still exists in 2008, these are amongst a 50+ page of rules delivered to the teams yesterday.

The proposed (draft) 2008 technical regulations includes:
1. Stewards: can, if nexessary, approve emergency tyre specifications to avoid a repeat of Indianapolis.
2. Fuel tanks - no repeats of the BAR fiasco
3. Total ban on carbon fibre suspension.

Re: F1 is boring me to death!!!!

Apparently an offer was made to the IMS/IRL run another 'FREE TO EVERYBODY' none championship race in Indianaplois later this year (October ?) and the offer was made collectively by the famous Seven. At the moment it has, apparently, been declined.
No suprises there.

Another part of the FIA draft for 2008 suggests a return to slicks and tyres supplied by ONE manufacturer only.

Re: F1 is boring me to death!!!!

Whats the deal with the carbon fibre ban, has it been responsible for some accidents?

Will this apply to gearbox casings?
I only ask this as must admit I was well impressed with the carbon BAR gearbox when I saw it a few months ago.

Oh well back to the drawing board!

Cheers

Correct mate, except for the first corner, boring as watching paint dry. And congratulations to both American pilots, first and second. Especially Nicky on his first MotoGP win.

Re: F1 is boring me to death!!!!

Whatever next ?
"If safety concerns aren't addressed David Coulthard declared on Saturday that Formula One could face a driver strike in the second half of the 2005 season".

The warning comes after an ongoing dispute between drivers and the FIA over safety concerns.

Re: F1 is boring me to death!!!!

This has probably already published in the USA but it goes nowhere to address the reimbursement of the true expense of getting to the race in the first place. There were people who flew in from all over the globe and others who drove incredibly long distances. Surely a simple ticket refund would never suffice !!

Michelin and Indianapolis reveal refund details

The following statement was released by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway's PR department on Friday:

MICHELIN AND INDIANAPOLIS MOTOR SPEEDWAY ROLL OUT TICKET REFUND PROCESS FOR F1 FANS

INDIANAPOLIS, Friday, July 15, 2005 – Michelin North America, Inc. and the
Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) announced today the details of the ticket refund process for ticket holders to the 2005 Formula One United States Grand Prix (USGP). All tickets purchased for race day (June 19, 2005) are eligible for the Michelin ticket refund.

“By working with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, we’ve created a thorough and quick process to reach out to all those fans present at the United States Grand Prix and offer them the face value refund of their race day ticket,” said Jim Micali, chairman and president of Michelin North America, Inc. “In addition to the ticket refund, we will provide 20,000 tickets to the 2006 USGP at Indianapolis to dedicated fans who purchased tickets to this year’s race. We hope through these gestures to encourage the further development of F1 in the United States.”

“Although many different parties had an influence on the race run at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway on June 19, Michelin has made a tremendous commitment to the fans of the United States Grand Prix,” said IMS President and Chief Operating Officer Joie Chitwood. “We’ve been working closely with Michelin to work out the details of the ticket refund process and we commend them on their commitment to a speedy and full response to the fans.”

For the vast majority of ticket purchasers, no action will be required to receive the Michelin ticket refund. IMS has begun sorting information on their USGP Account Holders automatically so Michelin can provide ticket refunds directly to them. USGP Account Holders will be mailed a letter next week detailing the ticket refund process.

Other individual race day ticket holders can submit their ticket stubs, along with a completed Stubbed Ticket Claim Form to IMS beginning Aug. 8. Stubbed ticket refund requests must be postmarked by Aug. 29, 2005 to be included in the ticket refund process.

The ticket refund will be administered by the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. On Aug. 8, details of the process and claim forms for individual ticket holders will be available online at www.indianapolismotorspeedway.com, at the IMS Ticket Office or on request by phone at 1 877 950-USGP ( 1 877 950-8747). Details of the program will also be posted on Michelin websites.

Michelin refund checks for USGP Account Holders and for individual ticket claims are expected to be issued and mailed between Sept. 19 and Sept. 26.

If the United States Grand Prix at Indianapolis is included on the 2006 Formula One schedule, Michelin will also purchase 20,000 tickets to that event. These tickets will be made available to fans that purchased tickets for the 2005 race. Details of the 2006 Michelin ticket distribution process are being finalized and will be announced after the Formula One calendar for 2006 has been released by the FIA.

Re: F1 is boring me to death!!!!

Possible new rules for qualifying in 2006.
Four sets of tyres, one to be used in each 15 minutes of a 1 hour session and low fuel qualifying with fuel top up after qualifying.

Re: F1 is boring me to death!!!!

I totally agree Pete - a cracker, but it would seem that David Coulthard is back to his whingeing. When asked how he enjoyed the race and a damn good finish to boot he said that whilst he was sure is was good for the fans, it felt like a reverse grid race and all he did was wait to be (inevitably) overtaken by the "big boys" (his words) Sounded like a little sour grapes to me. It's a shame because I thought he was enjoying a new lease of life for a moment, but now he's gone back to his unsmiling, dour self it seems.

Re: F1 is boring me to death!!!!

I agree Pete - very good. Saturday was brilliant as well (for me) and Fisico's lap was absolutely sensational. By the time Alonso set out it was a "no hoper" but he did a sterling job as well. If I'd been Fisico in the race I think I might have taken the McLaren off with me. But I'm not a sport anyway. Nobody remembers who came second next year, and Schumachers been doing things akin to that for the last how many years?
Now in Shanghai - wow - what a place.
